ah-ha! After a closer inspection of the beetles, they look like the ones Gallo Ciello Deo (I think...) posted a link too. Should I take these beetles out, discard of them, and put the good beetles into another container, dump the bran, clean the tank, and put in new bedding?
Ok- I took maybe a 100 beetles out- don't know how to tell the difference. They look alike! I don't know how many invaders there are. I have them set up in a layer of oatmeal and some carrots. I have them in a clear plastic bin with a lid with drilled holes. Can beetles fly?
I don't see any unusual beetles, only worms. I'll get some pictures. Maybe I'll sift through and see if the different beetles are below, even though I think the beetles just started laying eggs, I don't want to do anything to them. Ah well.
I've noticed some of my beetles are dying. Does this mean that they have laid there eggs? I am also wondering if some odd worms in the bedding are killing them. They are 1/2-3/4 inches long, grey and whitish striped and are fuzzy!!!!! Do I clean out the dead beetles?
For 4 chickens, 500-1000 worms would be a good starting point.
They will love all the heat they can get. I have mine by a window, too.
I am not sure about that.
I have 2,000 beetles currently in a 10 gallon tank. someone on here has around 15,000 in a ten gallon tank. There are probably lots of...
My tips would be- more surface are then depth for bedding, Putting their food on sour cream lids or the like so it doesn't get their bedding wet. I fed mine potatoes and first, but they mold and blacken quickly and mold is bad for mealies. I like carrots, they stay good for awhile and mealies...
I've never ever ever seen a cockroach, and from the sounds of them, NEVER plan too!!!! I Want to do earthworms, I gotta do some research and bat my eyelashes at my daddy! LOL No, when he sees that I've done the research, am willing to take responsibilty for it and are using my money, he usually...
