I hadn't mentioned that I got a Great Pyrenees pup a couple months ago. this is what she looked like when I first brought her home: She is growing now by leaps and bounds and I tell you, she LOVES her chickens! My biggest problem with her is that she wants to hold them down and lick them. She...

I'm late with this, but here's a pic of my flock in the snow. It snowed more heavily than I think I've ever seen in my life. But then I've only seen snow like 4 times haha. This is the day after it snowed, when about half had melted off.

NICE! You'll love it. I have a similar one but it's a Yanmar. About the same size and with the front loader. Have brush hog and box blade too. Absolutely love the thing. It's been invaluable for digging, carrying, mowing, you name it.

I SO need to go to Antique Rose Emporium this spring! I moved and left all my mother's old roses behind. But he has my favorites there and intend to get a few.

I learned that fast! They will indeed tear the hell out of a vegetable garden! They LOVE LOVE LOVE Chard too. I had some growing last year that I fenced off just close enough that they could still eat it, they just couldnt' kill the plants.

He has a side sprig. That is an automatic Disqualification and why he should not be used to breed show birds. Also, due to an accident, he's slightly lame. He'll live and love a good long time like that, but I'm raising SOP breeder birds and just can't use him. Usually I knock them off and eat...

Hi all! Been a while since I've been here really. My internet was down for a week and I sort of got into the habit of doing other things, like things I really should be doing rather than sit at the computer lol. Life here about 10 miles north of Woodville in east Texas is great. Anyway, I have...

Food poisoning does indeed cause pain, but it's not a constant pain. Probably like what you referred to as cramps. VERY painful but comes and goes, not constant. On the subject of tortillas, don't use oil to make them. Use a solid fat. I like to use butter. But sometimes I use lard, just...

Same here. I've gotten all I need for a while up here in east Texas. Now I need it to be a tad dryer so I can get some stuff done!

I would think a hen would break quail eggs sitting on them. If they're cheap enough it won't hurt to try though. I'm giggling thinking about a chicken trying to care for a bunch of quail.

OH MY GOODNESS. You've just made me homesick. I grew up in Corpus and remember buying shrimp like this. Later in the day you can get bait shrimp easily but you're right, got to get there before dawn to get the good stuff. Last time I was there, I had the best fresh snapper from a small joint in...

Used to see those when I was a child in Corpus Christi. Haven' seen one since. They are sweet, wonderful things. I love "horny toads" as we called them. Another cool Texas critter is the Road Runner, or Piasano. Yes, they are real, but they don't bedevil coyotes and stick out their tongues to...

Oh yes! She brought a few too me, too. One with a leg eaten off already, another with an open belly, but the first was only dead. Now though she's too fat to catch them.

Yep, that's horseherb or horseweed. Awful stuff IMO. That is, if you get it somewhere you don't want it. If it's just in the yard, eh, who cares lol. My birds are all very cautious about the cat. Kitty used to hunt for a living and so really did want to stalk them but a cross word from me a few...
