Oh yeah, saw a mosquito yesterday trying to hover around the back door. With lots of water like this there is a 'mosquito hatchery' in the low-lying area. One thing that works really well for me is those 'mosquito dunks'. If you can keep ahead of them... easier said than done, it's well...
Thank you AllenK - and my chickens thank you....:bow
There are times when a slight nudge can remove one from their position as a complete wuss.
For me it was a scissors and cut in - as you say - a few inch sized portions distributed among the chickens. As blood and intestines come out....Oh...
Yess, it felt like little teeth biting in. And the gloves have a kind of fabric that they dip in rubber so they don't get soaked when you are gardening -- so the snake went through the glove..... strange huh? I cant see any teeth in that mouth. ETA, the snake must have bit through the fabric...
Thanks guys! That's what I thought too - rat snake. Couldn't find any fangs...and I will check again before I throw it to the buzzards. My thinking is that it is more like a paper-cut from ?? the sides of the mouth, and just happened to make that fang pattern because of the roundness of the...
Dang! Just got bit by a snake. See those two red marks at the base of my thumb?
Thought since I had on gardening gloves, I could pick him up and throw him out of the way:
Really aggressive snake -- so since it broke the skin, and now my adrenaline was up, I thought I should look inside its...
LOL -- it just depends on how far back you go when you are reading -- and what you put in made a ton of sense actually, because of the way the posts were.
.
that is what the berries look like -- The leaves in the foreground aren't a match -- but one of the background leaves is. Mine have leaves more chartreuse and heart-shaped. The berries are in groups along the stems.
Thanks for the link KikisGirls - so they are called pods huh?
I have dumped about 5- 5 gallon buckets in the burn pile, and Have more to pick up and dump probably 10-more gallons will go tomorrow. Mine will go into a big bonfire.
What do you call those pine-cone- like thingies that come off Magnolia trees? I have thrown BUCKETS of them in the burn pile. They are big enough to twist my ankle. Have I ever fallen down stepping on one?
I consider them an enemy of the people.
Here's my vision of the thingie...
Have you tried one? they have a very delicate flavor. I am grabbing the twigs off and 'harvesting' them -- the chickens are really laying well lately. cooincidence?
It's time to harvest your American Beautyberry bushes berries for your chickens.
Know what else I have a lot of that my chickens like -- the fruits of the Passion flower vine. They demolish those once I pop the fruit open to reveal all the little seeds inside.
Was anyone else out in the...

Want to add my welcome -- and yes, I think that two would be fine laying and more aren't required. Probably the two will be blissfully happy that there is little 'competition' and a happy chicken is a good layer.
:O)

Remember a while back when I was concerned about the letter that Texas A&M sent out to people who have Pullorum-Typhoid Certificates? A&M is changing their testing process for those of you who don't know.
Dan Dykes just left here--- and he is working to visit everyone in his...
