Have you thought about letting her hatch a few, then selling the chicks? I know your limit is pretty strict. I tried for 3-4 weeks to break my Silkie before I gave in :/ Even then I put her out once a day to eat and such. She'd do it really fast then run back to her eggs, but she lasted 7 weeks...

If you don't mind a little road trip, you can also pick up your order at Ideal. If you're able, look on Facebook for a local chicken group :) Breeders are usually on there as well. If you decide to order from Ideal, just wait til it's a bit warmer out. I'm about 3 hours from them and got my...

Yeah it's unfortunate. But we rented the house before we got into chickens. Now I'm, checking the ordinances before I move anywhere else. Lol There are some parts of McKinney that are growing. I'm just lucky I'm not in an HOA

Mainly putting this up on my local board, but, just in case anyone is interested, here is the pair I need to find a home (or homes) for: Cockerel: Pullet: Russian Orloff crosses hatched Thanksgiving Day from shipped eggs under my broody hen and still with her. They do...

I've heard the same. I wish I could help, but no roosters in my city either :( We had one hatch out I was going to breed, and I told my husband I would keep him in the house if I had to lol But his comb is wrong so I have to re-home him too. Don't worry, someone will take him!

Weird...I can't stand people like that. Neither of my neighbors should have any room to complain...the ones to our left are a quiet, older couple. Nice enough: the guy mows our lawn once in awhile for us and the wife wasn't rude when I..ambushed her as soon as she got home from work because one...

Thanks! Obviously we don't have a full homestead, yet, but it can't hurt to go ahead and get everything reserved, like you suggested..so I did lol. Domain name, FB page and a pinterest..just in case.

Cute1 Ooh! I like that. And you're right, that's one of the reasons we wanted to stay away from landscape lol We're trying out The Crooked Hen Homestead for now. It's a little nod to our family cat that passed away when we moved up here. And a little reference to how animated my favorite...

You always have such good advice! You having a consulting company makes total sense ;) Thanks again! I've been reading up on some naming ideas and were looking for something personal and non-location related so it can travel as well. And also something that can encompass our future endeavors...

How did everyone come up with their farm/hatchery/business names? I just realized while I was filling out my application for the APA that I need a "Show name"... I planned on something in the future but..it kind of blindsided me. I can't use any land features..because we rent and wont actually...

Welcome! There is a lay in Conroe that I talked to...geez..it was a bit ago. I might still have her email somewhere..I think I shared it recently. I think she hatches in spring or summer. If I can find it I'll PM you. I wish I had some from her! But I was impatient and ended up getting a...

It's ok. It was last year, with my first batch. Learned a lot, patience being one of them..lol It was just..a bad combo: cold temps, post ran a day behind, they were left on the doorstep despite me calling every other hour for 2 days..etc Welcome!

I'm sorry..wish I could be of more help. I've only hatched with a broody. And the only time I've lost so many was when I got my first shipment of chicks, from PA in January :/ Not smart of me but I was impatient.. I lost 9 of m 15 due to cold. I hope you are able to figure it out!

Oh wow! I'm so sorry...losing babies never gets easy I know you've been incubating for awhile..was there maybe a chance that something contaminated it? Maybe an egg that weeped a little? That or something off in the brooder? We're you able to get a thermometer in there?

I am struggling to keep the one little Roo that I have! I'm going to be working on Russian Orloffs and I have one boy. I'll keep him inside if I have to, to keep him! lol I'm hoping to move next September to somewhere more lenient. I am a sucker for silver duckwing...it's one of my favorite...

Good luck with the Araucana! I've heard that tuft gene makes them hard to hatch, because if they get 2 copies it kills them in the shell. Keep us in the loop! I'd drive to Tyler for some Araucanas Lol
