I have a point to ponder with you all. I have a line of Barred Hollands that look better in the show cage, but they lay brown eggs. Now since the whole point of these birds was to have a dual purpose barred WHITE egg layer, to me they are just poorly colored small barred rocks. I mean really...
Mixing with start and grow will pull down your protein percentage, but that would certainly be better than plain start and grow. If you were really wanting to keep that protein up for the first few weeks, you could figure a preventative dose of amprollium to go in the water. It's not too hard...
Due to changing plans and limited pens, I carried my trio of barred Rocks to a sale last weekend. I wasn't excited to sell them and offered the trio for $100.
I can't tell you how many people stopped by to simply gawk at the huge rooster. "What kind is that?" "My barred rock isn't any...

Yep, took best of breed in Japanese Bantam, Barred Holland, Buckeye, Buckeye Bantam, Australorp, barred Rock.....
It easy to do when you're the only one exhibiting them.
Hi folks, I took reserve American with a Buckeye pullet and reserve English with a black Australorp at the El Dorado, Ar. Southern Arkansas poultry club show today. I am absolutely thrilled. I beat out some very nice RIR. The champion American was rir, I think he also took champion large...
My daughter took Champion English and reserve Large Fowl with a buff orpington pullet today at the Big Bird Classic in Pine Bluff Arkansas. I took reserve American with a barred Rock rooster. I scored major with the acquisition of a black Australorp rooster for my barred holland project.
Australorp is what was used in creating barred Hollands, and the body type as near as I can tell comes from them. So, really need to stick to Australorp. That and barred rock and leghorns, Won't need the leghorns I can breed back to the hollands. Might not need the barred rocks if I can get...
But pics will have to wait. I was going to uncrate them tonight, but as I pulled in the driveway at the "Annex", two racoons ran out from the shed where we feed the cats, through the barn and down to the creek. I don't have the electric fence installed yet, so thought I better not leave the...

Jen, Does this mean you are getting the whole flock?!...or just some? Congrats either way! They couldn't be in better hands!
Yep, the whole flock. 22 young hens and 5 roosters.
I got my response from Randy in Oklahoma, Subject was "Your Hollands" .....Jennifer, Great the birds are yours. Congrats by the way this is the largest flock of Barred Hollands in north america.

Did you look into them ones in OK
The flock in Oklahoma is an ideal flock, Mr. Urch's are supposed to be SOP quality. However, I am awaiting an answer from him now if he will hold them for me until next Monday, I will drive up to get them. It will take several years to get them up to...
I ordered some Barred Hollands from Duane Urch back in January and got a call that they would ship in Feb. Never heard anything else, so I finally called and got hold of him tonight and he tells me they're not laying good enough to get a good hatch(he had told me 10 or 12 at the most) so He...
