Spread the wing in a pic of the chicks- from what little I can see in the top pic I think that chick may be a female:-) Was it Friday that they hatched?

About the white spots- mine are hatchery too, the LF pullet had a perfect circle white spot in her crest that grew out as she matured.

Putting them eith friendlier birds does tend to help. The crevs wouldn't use their nest box no matter where I put it, even over their ground nest spot. They'd just dig another hole to lay in. Two days after putting a calm Russian Orloff pullet in with them and SHE taught them to use the nest...

Yep, they look like crevs with their feathers in. I wasn't sure before with a lot of chick down so I was hoping someone more confident with an answer would jump in:-) I may have my trio sold this weekend- nothing against them; they are very eady going birds but prefer to stay away from us. I...

I haven't researched lineage of the breed, mine came from a hatchery since I don't show. I read about them and since I was placing an order I went on and got them. Mine may not be show quality but they are beauties to me;-)

I'd offer some eggs but you are really far from the Appalachian Mountains region and I'm sure there wouldn't be any viable eggs by the time they got to you!:-)

Black polish? (If there is such a breed lol?) It looks like it is going to be a cutie as an adult too!

The crest feathers are different with polish than silkies so less gets tangled. Never had a prob in that area with the buff laced polish or crevs. Did have to trim silkie crest and beard feathers so she could see though;-)

Crevs are great chickens! I would suggest getting some. Mine lay pretty good but stay away from me. I raised them from chicks but they are timid even as adults. For me they are more "hands off" but they are advertised as being friendly. Guess it counts if I've never been challenged by the...

Their looks change from juvie to adult but the colorful sheen stays. The males look like they'd tear someone up but mine is timid with people. He reminds me of classical famous pianist with the long neck and flowing hackle feathers!

Everything in print isn't necessarily how it is, depends on your husbandry as well. Some of what I had read said not hardy in the cold but I raised mine from chicks in the Fall/Winter with no problems. I have a trio and one pullet is a bantam, never had any problems and we got quite a bit of...

So lucky to be able to let them free range! The black is a great contrast to the flowers. Are they the only chickens you have or do they segregate themselves?

As far as having crevs in with others- my crevs were in a grow out coop with buff laced polish and mottled houdans as for crested breeds but also had buff orpington, white leghorn and russianthe orloff heavy breeds as friends in there. All were together up to 22 weeks old. When the large(r) fowl...

My soon-to-be parent stock crevs came from Welp hatchery. For the 2 years or so that I made my wishlists and compared all of the hatcheries for breeds and prices I finally came to the conclusion that Welp was the best choice for me. Out of 5 crev chicks winter took 2. I now have a standard...

No, not show quality but beautiful healthy birds. I wouldn't even know where to start for SQ:-)

They aren't laying yet but I do plan to sell chicks. I'm just beginning to research shipping chicks and my crevs are due to start laying any time now.

They are majestic birds! The feathers on mine not only have a green sheen but purple too. The Black Jersey Giants we had before had the green sheen but I think the purple is just awesome on the crevs. Here's to hoping for good fertility/hatch rates all around:-)
