Way to go!
I have been trading eggs for beer occasionally for a year now at a local microbrewery. Best trade so far was 18 eggs for a case of 24 short fills, which are 12 ounce bottles with not quite 12 ounces of extremely tasty fresh beer.
Last Saturday I finished tacking the plastic (clear shower curtain liners) outside the run walls, relocated the water/lamp so they would be less likely to tip it over, removed some litter from under the run roosts and dug into the compost in the run to keep it composty before adding a bunch of...
I have three young girls who were hatched about 5/25/15. They began to lay in mid December and seem to be pretty regular by now.Two are EE and the third is RIR. Two green eggs around 52 grams and a large light brown at around 72 grams. Averaging 6 eggs a day (this week) from 11 hens. Looking...
Just reading this today...
I now have two hives. I'll be starting two more in the spring. Honeybees really don't bother humans. Oh, one will sting you if you open the hive after dark (and a few beers) to look inside for no reason at all... But for the most part, they are consumed with...
For ChicagoClucker re Bees
I added a couple bee hive this year. My free ranging flock of 13 is not interested in them at all. This time of year it is easy to find aging bees all over the yard on the ground... The chickens avoid them. Not afraid but not food.
Glad your gal is back to normal!
Holiday weekend update:
I was out of town for most of the past week. When I returned before dusk last night the babies looked like they had chosen a new roosting site outside of the coop under some brush. They are very flighty so it was impossible to catch them, and herding didn't work so...
Chicago Clucker...
In the middle of spring I had one broody. And then I had two. I was seriously missing the extra two eggs.
On the Thursday after Memorial day (after 3 weeks of broody #2 sitting on golf balls) I slipped two chicks under each or the broodys. Four weeks later... The chicks...
OkeyDokie...
I picked up 4 more baby chicks at Belmont Feed yesterday. About 9p I tucked them under the wings of my 2 broody hens.So far... It seems to have worked out well! The broodies have left their nests to care for the chicks. All 4 chicks seem close to bothe new moms. Both moms seem to...

Thanks! I think I'm just gonna move her whenever I get a chance. Later this afternoon we dug in the compost pile. Time for treats now... I'll probably put her on the roost with the others before dark.
I'm not certain it would be appropriate for me to post in a Moms group, but that's a good idea! I might just have to drop them an introductory postcard!
I have two other neighbors who are interested in keeping hens. What a soothing racket that would make!
One of my girls went broody...

I recently saw a flock of 4 in my neighborhood... On Pulaski south of Avondale. Wondering if they belong to anyone on this thread and just wanted to say Hi! And what good looking birds you have!
I have heard of two other coops in my little quadrant, but but have located...
Change in the weather...
Today, the girls were no longer interested in the morning ration of scratch in their run. Instead, they bolted right out into the yard to see what they could find on their own.
It must be Spring!
Big day... I have confirmed that all hens are laying AND received 7 eggs from my 8 girls today. And I built/assembled a bee hive at Garfield Park Conservatory this morning. Hoping bees are a compatible hobby!

I have been using the granulated sweet PDZ, but not for chicks. The hens top it with straw. It's working good so far under the roost.
Didn't read that you were talking about chicks in the brooder...
