Once ducks are grown I think they are a whole lot easier to raise and keep than chickens. I have 500 birds here and half are waterfowl. Some female ducks can be noisy, but usually the larger the duck the less noise it makes., I have about 50 Runner ducks here and they are champion layers and I...

Thanks. I have raised Egyptian geese for 40 years. They are beautiful, but they don't play well together. Walt

The Egyptians are pretty birds. I will be at all the California shows and usually available to talk one to one. The next one will be at Paso Robles 10/4. Utility birds are great but once you see the show birds it is pretty hard to go back. Most have utility and beauty. Walt

Hey....they are your birds manage them the way you like. I was just putting out to the lurkers that vaccinating is not the only way to go. I don't medicate for anything and if they die, that is the way it goes. Because of my management, the average age of birds here is 8-10 years old. I don't...

I no longer have problems with Mareks. I have over 500 birds here. You need to do some additional reading regarding Mareks. Unlike Aids/HIV Mareks can be prevented by natural immunity. I have been raising chickens for 50 years. Walt

Vaccinattng for Mareks does not always eliminate the potential to get Mareks. I haven't vaccinated for anything here in 40 years and the birds here don't get Mareks. Maybe Mikes birds have a natural immunity......which is far better than an attempt to make them immune through vaccinating. Walt

Just now returned from the APA National at Springfield Mass and need to get the birds ready for Stockton in 3 days Here is the showroom at the meet.....a very small part of it, the Host hotel and the view from the hotel window. If they never touch dirt that helps a lot, but I raise all my birds on the ground, even the white birds. I keep clean deep litter and it works pretty well. You can clean the scales with a tooth pick, but I don't do that either. I just use a brush. I try not to wash the birds....just keep them...

There is no admission to any shows in CA. Saturday is the day to look at things as Sunday most people want to get out before noon. They pick the champions Sunday morning and then within an hour everyone is gone. Walt
