Quote: Was this to me? I'm north of town, we have 11 acres. I would love to find another Sumatran rooster but I think it will have to wait until spring. I have a few barnyard mutts coming next week to keep my girls company though! I'm glad all your girls made it through, I hope we're done with...

Woohoo! I'm getting eggs now! My Easter Eggers are laying very nice blue-green eggs. They're the first of my hens to produce eggs, I always heard they're later layers but my other hens just kind of wander around. : But yay for eggs! Now to teach them to lay in the nestboxes, not under the truck.

Anyone need some roosters? I have too many. I have a Blue Andalusian, Silver Polish, two Gold-Laced Wyandottes and an Easter Egger (plus I'm keeping three!). I'm over in Maquoketa but I'd meet someone somewhere too.

He's pretty sweet, like a normal EE. He just learned to crow this week and he's very proud of himself. I'd never seen coloration like his before!

Thought I'd share a funny picture this morning- this is my EE roo, ICP. I named him that because he looks like one of the insane clown posse people. Isn't he the weirdest looking roo?

Hey Iowa! We finally got a stretch of good weather and I've been out in the garden and pastures. Had a funny chicken experience today, thought I'd share: We have a Blue Andalusian rooster (Papa Smurf) who is the top of the coop. He follows me around demanding treats. We have one other for sure...

Quote: I really like my Brinsea Octagon. It doesn't hold as many eggs but I've had excellent hatches in it, plus it's temp-controlled and has a fan. It's under 100 dollars.

My 11-week old Blue Andalusian rooster crowed for the first time today. He looked so proud of himself! It made me laugh. Just wanted to share!

Quote: Sorry to hear that! Poor little guy. Sad to hear about the puppy! Such sad news. Stay safe everyone- we have almost 6 inches of snow and it's supposed to snow/sleet tonight. Yuck. Placed my order for new spring chicks- some polish, golden-laced wyandottes, sumatras and blue...

Quote: Oh no! So sorry for your loss It's too bad the wild critters love our chickens as much as we do. That is too bad. Of course they like the poultry for a different reason sometimes.... Did the coyote do any damage or break in? Do you think you have a pack of those nasty things in...

ARGH!! Coyote got two chickens last night! I am so bummed. It got my Black Copper Marans and my young Australorp who looked like a maybe-rooster. Sigh. I am pushing for our new giant coop to be built now, instead of waiting until spring like the hubs wants. Pics of the puppies, please...
