My chickens don't have any grass (what few clumps they did have they've already eaten) Under these circumstances chickens will eat toxic plants such as hosta, lilies and buttercups (soon as they pop out of the ground)
We trap and surrender dogs to the county or put them up in our own dog kennels until we're reimbursed for damages or it goes to court.
Its a pain in the butt but we don't have a stray dog problem.
Can you call animal control? Once the impound fees, court costs and damages exceed a dogs value most dog owners fail to claim them. Sorry for your loss!
Chickens will not only eat tall grass if not given a choice they'll also eat toxic plants if there's little else to eat. I learned this when I researched free ranging chickens in chicken tractors(confined to a small space)
If you have a large fenced yard you run the same risk because they'll eat things they shouldn't there too.The only chickens that rarely have crop issues are free range chickens. They can afford to be picky
The grass is usually no problem as long as they eat the tender tips but yanking tall grass out of the ground and feeding the chickens isn't a good idea.I cut mine up with scissors when I pick them grass. Your place is absolutely heavenly! I know your chickens are very happy!
Impacted crops occur most often when your bird has eaten too much large and fibrous food, such as long grass.
A lack of droppings (poop)
Not laying eggs
Weakness
