That's a great suggestion to use shade cloth. I hadn't thought of it. It is funny to watch them pop out of the underground tunnel. The attacks did happen in the daytime. The raccoon killed when we were out of town. I came back that night, late, to half my chickens in the coop. My dead...

I have a chicken tunnel. It runs from my coop that's half way up my hill to my side yard where they have a big run area. They even have an 8' section where they go under ground; under the gate to the side yard area. They all (9 chickens) do it well. We have had a raccoon that's attacked and...

I too get tired of dealing with rediculous antics of ignorant people where chickens are concerned. We should leave Norco behind and do it elsewhere. Birds flying around and cats passing through and stray animals along with wild animals are fine in a park, but chickens with owners are...

I think the key is to have a lot of room for them. If you plan on buying a small little ready made coop where they will be confined 90% of the day to 15 sq ft (5'x3') then you have to plan accordingly. But a breed variety will be great if they have some room to roam.

My bantams have the most personality. They are such sweet and fun birds. They are my favorite.

My bantam group of 3 pullets hang out together everywhere. You could probably reintroduce them (if you got 3) if you keep them insight of eachother with a see through fence and put them together after a few weeks. My bantams are pretty good about holding their own, but I have mostly calm birds.

I've heard that shade goes a long way when it gets really hot. No chicken is that heat tolerant without some help. A large 13x9 pan filled with water is important too. They can get in it and cool off like a shallow pool. Keep loads of water around so you never run dry during the day too. Have...

Too funny! Poor thing ( I mean the chicken). No seriously, kuddos for trying out a chicken even though she's afraid.

One of the things I find so funny is how scared people are of chickens that have been very handled and are very tame. Some friends of mine think nothing of handling a dead and over processed chicken from the grocery store, but think a live and healthy chicken is yucky. So odd.

Guess what they have at poway/Carmel mtn costco? Mini coops. They were really well made and thought out. Liked it a lot!

I saw 3 geese at the Hawthorne country feed store. They were selling them all for $50. I bought mine off craigslist. It was a lady in la mesa. She has the babies in la mesa and the breeders in temecula. There was a family that I got chicks from that sold EE. I'm interested in more places to...

I have a young white silkie rooster that just started crowing. I can't keep crowing roosters and he needs to go right away. He is hand raised and very sweet. He has been very well loved by my 4 kids. He and all of my birds are very healthy and have been since I got them 4-5 months ago. Wish we...
