    Dog Breed suggestions??

In this post https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/dog-breed-suggestions.1607989/post-27404783 OP said they were looking for a calm but active dog. GSP isn't the first breed that comes to mind. If we rules out GSD and dalmatian, I think GSP would fall under the same category

Rottweilers are also a working breed, bred for herding, protection, and pulling. None of these things fit what OP is looking for

    Dog Breed suggestions??

That is very strange. Don't think it was a trained behaviour, however. Still, quite interesting

We were, but you broadened it to any prey animal. Still, I find it very unlikely that a saluki can be trained to not hunt fowl

    Dog Breed suggestions??

I will slightly disagree here. I do not think that you can train a saluki to not hunt rabbits

    Dog Breed suggestions??

Yes, they're definitely more independent thinkers. OP is wanting a dog to find a possibly days old scent, go out, find it, and retrieve it. That requires a lot of independent thinking. Hounds weren't ever really bred to retrieve game however, so that's that

    Dog Breed suggestions??

Yup. I'd think most snowline retrievers would have a problem retrieving. Hence why I'm apprehensive about recommending a working line retriever. That's a lot of energy for a beginner

    Dog Breed suggestions??

Huh. So you want it given back as well. That does mean a retriever might work better. Don't know if that would be too independent for a retriever...they're smart dogs, they should be able to figure it out, probably

    Dog Breed suggestions??

Because Hounds are better trackers, and although bird dogs are excellent trackers, and highly intelligent dogs, IMO, they don't compare to Hounds, especially if they're not from working lines. This brings me to my next point, which is energy requirements. I think a lot of Hounds have more...

    Dog Breed suggestions??

I think you should be focusing on Hounds, not bird dogs. A husky is not something I'd recommend to a beginner owner

    Dog Breed suggestions??

Being spitz, I'd think the same. AKC disagrees. I have no clue
