If you can pay for shipping (I have no idea what that costs) I can send it. I expect I’ll have more. The last clutch was ten.

Guess what : Fred and Ethel have another egg and are building an actual nest (this time under their shelter - guess they learned from the last go around). I don't think I can let him sit another two months, he just got up three weeks ago from the last clutch. But wow, fast moving on the next...

If it’s not I’ll worry less🤣 I just don’t want it to lead to something worse, some form of emu bumblefoot or … I don’t know. Wish we had some warmer weather so I could just take them outside with a little warm water or wet grass.

They’re about two weeks old - the brooder is a large Great Dane size crate with a towel on top of non slip carpet. It gets changed and cleaned a few times per day. I have a pen enclosed with dog gates with pine shavings for when they come out which is also a few times per day; they are up in the...

How do you keep chicks’ feet free from poo?? I clean the crate/brooder several times each day and they run around in pine shavings in a large pen in the barn but they often look like they have poo shoes on 😳. While they can be pet and touched and loved on, they don’t like being picked up and I...

Final tally was four successful hatches, one poor chick that hatched but didn't make it out of the nest, and two that started hatching but didn't make it out of the shell (unsure why). We are just past 60 days from what I expect was the last egg laid and sat upon in the clutch so I called it...

Regarding feeding, if anyone has any suggestions for the chicks (@Pyxis ?), I read the following: "They will be on the ratite crumb until around a month, after a month mix ratite growers in with it for another month or 2, then they should be on the growers pellets until around 6 months when you...

Here's an update on the four babies currently in the brooder. No more collected - there was a hatching egg but no chick yet. I'm not sure if he made it or not.

Still holding at 4. I *thought* maybe I heard a peep this morning under Fred, but no chicks on the fringes and I didn't hear anything a couple of hours later. Either it was ambient bird noises or perhaps an egg is getting ready to hatch. Either way, five eggs remain under him and I'm hoping he's...

Latest update is four in the brooder doing well. One had curled toes and I was worried about splayed leg, so he has little taped shoes and a leg brace. I hope this does it - he's moving much better today, and I think they'll come off tomorrow to see how he does on his own. Fingers crossed. On a...

I think so...yesterday there was one chick I couldn't reach when I got the other two, which may have been the one I got today, and an egg was in the process of hatching. There could be six more total (yike!) but we'll see!

I think once he’s done hatching and they’ve all beefed up a bit and learned to eat and drink we’ll move them (and Fred) to our barn and keep them in a more confined (yet spacious) area. After that I’m not sure! We definitely didn’t count on possibly ten chicks. Also I’m getting attached 🤣

Y'all - we're up to three in the brooder, one still under Fred (I couldn't reach and it looked very newly hatched) and one was in the process of hatching. I am speechless! Here's a video from this morning when I saw Fred crouching over the clutch. Taz seems to be doing well still after his first...

    Nesting emu

Well big news - I whistled by Fred this morning (as I have since Friday) and he majorly moved and I got a reply peep. Turns out he hatched his first chick probably a couple of days ago (he kept it quite a secret). I’ve moved the little guy inside to the brooder and it looks like there may be...

I hope Toosh Toosh and kids are okay!! It's so tough not knowing what to expect - I have a large dog crate ready to go in the laundry room, brooding heat plate, ratite starter crumble, bowls, vitamins, etc. on hand for the first few days+, but it may be for nothing or it may be for, as you...

I’ll let you know! If it doesn’t happen at least he got to follow his instincts. I ordered some emu chick starter crumbles though…just in case. 🤞🏼

He is sitting on ten. This is Fred and Ethel’s first clutch. I’m hopeful we’ll get at least a couple of hatchlings but really no idea what to expect.
