Transylvanian Pterosaurs - The Naked Neck Chronicles

So here are some updated pics. The black one now has brown partridgey markings, and the white one is looking splash or paint, not sure yet.

And a few of H and Midnight with their Wyandotte and Polish siblings. Can anyone guess why H is called H?

And this is H about 8 hours old having dried and fluffed out, being held by my little boy.

Transylvanian Pterosaurs - The Naked Neck Chronicles

This is H being helped to hatch. The inner membrane was stuck to the back of his bald head. I wonder if this is common with Naked Neck chicks? Being as there are no feathers there.

Transylvanian Pterosaurs - The Naked Neck Chronicles

Hi, we have a hatch! Only 2 Transylvanian eggs made it to the end. Plus 1 Wyandotte. So I went and bought some baby chicks to go with them: Polish, Lavender Barred Araucana, and gold Partridge Wyandotte. 10 babies in total. The earlier 2 that hatched under another hen (English Cuckoo Marans...

Transylvanian Pterosaurs - The Naked Neck Chronicles

Bit of an update on the eggs. Disappointingly I think a lot of them were not fertile. Only 3 seem to have development and 1 of those has quit. So I only have 2 eggs out of 11 that might hatch. And 1 Wyandotte with them (out of 6). The 2 Transylvanians that are developing look good. Nice...

Transylvanian Pterosaurs - The Naked Neck Chronicles

So the Sussex was letting a couple of eggs on the outer edge of the nest cool, so I moved one to the Polish, who is managing fine with 8 eggs. That left the Sussex with 9. This was on day 1 and 2 so I'm thinking it won't affect the hatch, except perhaps to delay those eggs by a day. But then I...

Transylvanian Pterosaurs - The Naked Neck Chronicles

Quick update. Only 2 of the sibling group hatched. An English Cuckoo Maran and a Lavender Araucana. Shame it wasn't more, but hey ho. They will be 3 weeks old when the Transylvanians hatch, and the mama hen is unproven so I don't know how long she will care for the chicks until she weans them...

Transylvanian Pterosaurs - The Naked Neck Chronicles

Today the sibling group has pipped. I honestly thought I would have a hatch earlier than day 21 given how hot it has been here, and bantams usually hatch a little early. But no, they have been watching the clock and decided to be textbook 21 day chicks! I should have babies by tomorrow (maybe...

Ha! I think Pterosaurs is quite apt. Or Velociraptors. This applies to all chickens!

Transylvanian Pterosaurs - The Naked Neck Chronicles

Hello happy chickeny folks from around the world! I have started this thread to chronicle the journey of some Naked Neck chickens I am going to hatch. I have never had this breed before, so this is a bit of an experiment. I've raised probably 20 or so other breeds before and have been a keen...
