Yes, melaniatic pheasants can have really full neck, parcial neck or just a few spots of feathers or no ring. And can be different shades of melanistic.

More of the Common Chinese ring necked coming out. That's what I was referring too when I mentioned the ring around the neck or the lack thereof.

only difference is the one in the pic doesn't have a ring around it's neck but that's possible.
