Glad the introduction went well! Some emus are more territorial than others. You are just lucky it worked 😊
I won’t judge yours if you won’t judge mine 😂 it’s definitely not perfect either.
That’s a tough one. Last fall I put two juveniles with two adults. The adults weren’t friendly and would constantly chase and kick them. Over a long period of time, they started to tolerate the younger ones as they got closer to their size. Now they will tolerate them long enough to eat and...
I just reread what was said… I need to stop skipping the meat of a post! Sorry. So are they wiggling today?
I’m all for letting the weak ones go, don’t get me wrong. But sometimes they just need a little air and light help. I have one now that’s two weeks old that should be dead. It was...
If you put one of the eggs on a flat surface, you’ll see the egg lean more to one pointy side. When they are getting close to hatching, the chick spreads out in the egg and levels the egg.
Definitely time for a new one! Is it a gqf? If so, you can buy parts. I incubate at 97.5 and so far hatching has been great.
There are 8 hatching next week. Way too many at once!
Hello :)
Emus can stay in the incubator for a day or so and be just fine. All they really do is sleep and it just keeps them in a controlled environment while they rest. Some chicks will try to explorer foods a day or two after hatch, but most don’t have interest in food or water for 3 to 4...
I really appreciate the input. I did write a neutral review explaining everything. In hopes that the people selling these eggs don’t send another poorly shaped egg to anyone else.
Was really hoping for a couple good chances of getting white or blonde this year. The two white chicks I’m picking...
I almost drove to Texas from Washington to avoid the damaged eggs lol Mine came in undamaged but one is so skinny and shaped like a torpedo that anything that tries to hatch will have a very hard time. Said something to the people, but they shrugged it off like “oh well”. Still deciding if they...
Taking chances with eBay hatching eggs again. Chance for blonde or white. Don’t know why I do this… Then picking up this guy and one other in 4 weeks or so.
The wild emus most likely don’t encounter slippery surfaces soon after hatch.
The second hatchling got to the back of the incubator and off of the towel. So it slipped on the painted wood for a bit. Found it sprawled out flat, so just retraining its muscles/tendons with tape. So far it’s...
Ok good. I do the same thing. Just don’t want them hatching while at work on the turner trays.
Speaking about work… Apparently today is “Take Your Emu to Work Day” the second one that hatched has really bad splayed legs. Found it flat as a pancake with legs out to the sides. It’s currently in...
The two that were due yesterday are still hanging out in their shells. Due as in day 48. Giving it a couple more days. But pulled them off the turners Saturday, hopefully that didn’t cause any issues.
When does everyone else pull them off the turners?
How old is he? Sometimes the younger males don’t quite get to the point of sitting on the eggs. They figured out the nesting part and collecting eggs, but don’t make it to the sit part.
