Thank you very much for all your replies and suggestions and for sharing your experience. The conclusion to this epic journey is that I just gave up. Completely. I had a visit from my neighbor in the morning today, asking me if I can get rid of the rooster as he can't sleep. It was surprisingly...
Thank you for your reply. Yeah, that makes sense, unfortunately... But I think the real problem here is that the rooster is not mating with them. I believe there would be at least some development or some hatch rate if he would and if the eggs would be fertile. I think trying another rooster...
Ok, so I finally managed to wake up. 4:15 was way too soon, it was too dark, so I went back to bed and got up at 5. Waited about 20 minutes for the automatic door to open up, which was a bit surprising to me, since it seemed like there is already enough light. But now the fun part - the rooster...
If I will be incubating another batch of eggs, which I hope I will, I won't be wrapping the eggs. Thank you for pointing that out. It will save me a lot of time and work too, so I am more than happy to skip that step.
I talked to the previous owner of the rooster and he said he is fertile as they were taking samples of the rooster's sperm. So infertility is not an issue. He said however that it's pretty weird that I am not seeing any mating activity - that by this time, there should definitely be some. He...
I didn't manage to wake up again, but tomorrow, though still really tired today, I am setting the alarm to 4:20 already and will get up no matter what. I have to figure out what's going on and whether I need a new rooster or just give this one more time or whatnot.
Yes, there is definitely a ring and a couple of speckles inside the disc. This egg yolk here in this post https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/eggs-not-developing-please-help-me-figure-out-whats-wrong.1522495/post-25646924 is from the hen that laid the egg from today's photo 1. It looks...
Interesting, I definitely see it as blastoderm... But that's from my inexperienced perspective - I've never seen any other egg's germinal spots so what do I know...
Alright, I will keep an eye out, check tomorrow at dawn, and let you know what I witnessed. Thank you so much for trying to solve this with me, I really appreciate it!
They don't seem to dislike him straight away... They are not running away (they did in the first few days before they got used to him being around) and they seem relaxed around him.
Yes, I can do that, I have a clear view of the coop and the run from my living room. So I will get up early tomorrow before the coop door opens and I will give you an update on what happened.
Oh, I see... Okay, so it is not a reliable sign... I thought it is bulletproof, damn it... Well, then I guess I just need to observe them and see if they mate... Maybe they didn't mate just yet since he is in the run with them for only a month and a couple of days.
So maybe it just needs more time? After all, it has been just a month and a couple of days. Maybe I need to wait another month or so before they are fully bonded and the rooster mates with them regularly? They seem to get well off together, he seems to be fairly gentle and friendly towards them...
Those were exactly my thoughts. I would see something at least in some eggs, especially in the fresh ones collected the same day or day before setting. But there is simply nothing at all. I did not break the eggs open - they really looked just as if they were not incubated and they all looked...
That did cross my mind... Damn it... Do you think that might be the reason? So the egg yolk can appear as fertile but not develop due to the age of the hens?
