Is there a way to retain the Silkie feathers? And would they have black skin? Wow... Didn't notice that it would be a colour roulette. By breeding the F1 generation would it be possible to get the Isabella colour again?

Still don't know what you mean. It can just be a different phenotype.

Why? I've had chicks with little differences in colour as per normal but never with completely white shanks and beak. And such a lighter overall colour.

Hi... New question... These two FBCM chicks have the same father and mother... can some one explain why the left one is so much lighter? They're 7 total, that's the only one like that....

So, other than a genetic test, the only way to be sure (kind of) that there is a e^b gene would be to have a rooster and a hen from the same group and same characteristics, breed them together and see if any offspring have a partridge phenotype as adult. Because even if this is an e+/e^b...

Sorry didn't understood. Sorry for nagging but there is still a lot to discover and comprehend in chicken genetics.

But Marans don't have e^b genes, so either the rooster and at least one of the chickens have the e+ allele or someone hit the jackpot and have both e+ and eWh allele hiding in a phenotypically normal FBCM flock.

From what I gathered from the genes info a e+/eWh combination would be virtually indistinguishable from Wheaten. So the chick would not have a pattern but would be white/yellow.

more like a giant silkie... the comb could be single but I would like to keep the dark skin I was hoping that nicalandia would shed some light in the genetics involved in the silkie x JG cross... Just saw the thread about the silkie/brahma cross....It is an excellent idea. How does the...

Has anyone tried to cross a silkie with a jersey giant? I have a hen from JG x white silkie who retained the black skin, small comb and 5 toes but with an all black colour with normal feathers... I know that there is some thread about giant silkies projects but was just wandering about what...

Golden salmon Marans have partridge like chicks. They don't have the EB allele, they're wild type in the E allele (e+/e+). From what I read both parents could be heterozygous (ER/e+) but I'm not sure. The breeder from where the eggs came said that it was the first time that one hatched like...

Really? I thought that wheaten chicks had white spots on their heads. And these didn't. I guess we'll se when they start to feather. What about the second question? Any ideias?

Hi, A question for Nicalandia. FBCM(m) x FBCM(f) -> in 25 eggs , two chicks are completely white (yellow fluff when chicks), feathered white shanks - its posssible for them to be something other than white Marans? (recessive white?) FBCM (m) x FBCM (f) (different strain for the above)-> in...
