Avian influenza found in South Carolina

I waited for 30 days of no infections in my state & then let the girls back out. I don't know what's right or wrong, but that's what I did. :idunno I check the APHIS site daily. I will say I cringed when 2 geese flew over while I was sitting on the deck though. :gig

Avian influenza found in South Carolina

I let mine out too last weekend. It had been 30 days since the last of any detection in CT. I haven't taken down any of the provisions I put up, just in case. & the girls are in their glory to be let back out. Overall it worked well & I guess I'll know how to handle it next year should it...

Avian influenza found in South Carolina

Ok, you'll see why I bribed the poor neighbors with eggs! I tried to keep it as un-trashy as I could using clear plastic instead of tarps. But it is what it is. This hoop is attached to the side of their small covered run which is attached to the coop. It sits inside the large 1200 sf run...

Avian influenza found in South Carolina

Eh, you get used to it living in CT. :gig I'm just surprised they haven't found a way to tax me on them beyond the sales tax. 😂 I am curious though, I must say. Next time I get chicks shipped I will ask questions now that I know it's not normal. LOL

Avian influenza found in South Carolina

Could be. If it didn't happen for chicks shipped in Oct I would have thought they were checking in because of HPAI. I really just don't know. I will get pics when I go out there to collect more eggs.

Avian influenza found in South Carolina

Not that I ever knew of! Funny, first time I ever had chicks shipped (last Oct) & I got a form in the mail a couple months later asking for the hatcheries certs. :idunno I called the hatchery & they said just send them the invoice, it has their NPIP info on it. So I sent that out to the CT...

Avian influenza found in South Carolina

They sure did. But to clarify it was the CT Dept of Ag, not the feds. I had chicks shipped in the fall so they have it on record I have birds here. She wouldn't give me tons of info, I got more on the APHIS site than I did from the agent, but I believe it was because the culled birds were...

Avian influenza found in South Carolina

I haven't caught up but wanted to throw out an idea in case you haven't come up with anything yet... I have a 1200sf run with netting over the top. I got a call from the Dept of Ag that they culled 155 birds near me & I should lock mine up. So, what I did was get a couple cattle panels &...
