Partly my fault. The egg shouldn’t have been incubated. Yolk wasn’t at all ready for him to have pipped. Veins everywhere. Lucky he didn’t pop one when he internally pipped.
I’ve seen some crows lately I didn’t know they took eggs. Fortunately I have my runs covered with deer netting that works for hawks as well. Ground squirrel will get into coops here and eat eggs.

While we have a few fox here it’s the coyotes I have to worry about. That and raccoon. I’d really like to free range but that’s not possible
It’s really helped with the trampling. Occasionally one gets on top of an egg hatching but hasn’t been a problem. I used to cut holes in the cartons bottom for air flow but found that’s not necessary
You may want to try lockdown in an egg carton, IF the eggs aren’t too big. Chicken eggs work real well. I’ve never tried ducks, although it did work with a turkey egg. Trick to the egg carton is if they pipped upside down they’d have a harder time getting out due to the egg cartons sides in the...
