Final tally this hatch 9/10. One was DIS. 3 Polkies/6 Silkies this time. Got two black silkies this go round! Last batch they were all paint. Photo of eight of them in the dryer. One is still in the “hatcher” incubator.😊

Came home after being out most of the day to this! Separator system is working.😊

Most of the eggs in the second batch of Silkies/Polkies have externally pipped! 😃 Placed safety holes in the remainder as these are pullet eggs with higher chance of malpositioning. Will see how the separators work while we are gone today. I added a second separator basket for the uncontained...

Yes, they do tend to develop more spots as they get older. The cockerel in my profile photo had very few spots as a chick.😊

Thought I would share this egg separating idea I found online. Using small embroidery cards, I cut them down a bit to fit in the incubator so that I can hatch different breeds at the same time. I used small zip ties that I use to band older birds, to tie the cards together. My silkies and...

14/15 silkies/polkies hatched in all on the first round.😊 Next is lockdown, today, for the 3 mixed silkie/Marans/RSL eggs my broody was sitting on to test her (she failed... :confused:) She abandoned them at 9 days and they have joined the other eggs in the incubator. Expected to hatch Friday.

Thanks! Yeah, we were just using what we had at home! The silkie chicks are so small the tangerines look like pumpkins!😊
