To reiterate from the original post, they must be of a discrete variety and of an accepted breed. Those are separate qualifications. More explicitly, we don't want mixed colours such as you'd find in Easter Eggers or other mutts, but if the variety is commonly recognized as real it does not...
I'd say yes to both. You can't enter a bird with completely random colouring, but if it's a discrete colour pattern that we can judge based on qualifications, then yes.
Good question. We haven't put down any hard rules on age, but in general, you want the bird to be fully mature so it meets the adult standards for its breed.
Not in the BYC Summer Fair. :) However, throughout the year there are plenty of photo contests where the breed and quality of the bird does not matter!
I just dismantled my breeding pens and chose a pair to keep back for show season. I'm not too happy about the wear on the pullets' heads, but I don't want to keep my best birds back from breeding either.

It is very close to the standard described here. I'm not familiar with the other standards nor the Sussex as a whole, but I just looked at my SOP and the general points are well in line with the link above.
