She's done, took 6 days total, due to the wrong bird being place in crate on day 3. Plus we were in a heat wave, which prolongs breaking broody.

Well, broody birds go broody, no matter what breed they are. ;)

I just use the 'watched threads' page, have it saved as a favorite on my browser. Refreshing it brings the threads with new posts up to the top. It's the main navigation tool I use here. Alerts are a PITA, IMO...and email notifications even worse.

Yeppers. Well, it is kinda small for 8 birds, and definitely small for integration, but you work with what you've got. Great idea!

Most EE have pea combs...which can be pretty good telling gender as most males have 3 rows of peas and females have only 1 row.

Good experiment! I'd have left the chicks with the broody. But maybe too risky at night, eh?

Maybe since they had an MHP, at least more so than if they had been under a lamp. But the mama might not accept them. Might try a huddle box for few days before moving them.

I would immediately remove the male broody chicks, put them in the inside brooder. Maybe put all the chicks that will be leaving in the inside brooder, leave the rest with mama broody....ok , read back, option 3?

<cringes> Bad habit, IMO. Watch your eyes and especially your kids. It would be really cool if she would take them on, would remove integration woes from your scenario. Even if she doesn't, it's likely the littles will group together eventually.
