Okay thanks.
Well my daughter wants some rabbits now... My husband is all into it, but I read that they're infected with coccidia too. I figured that hens and rabbits themselves are happy with their own coccidia (as long as they're healthy, young and strong) , but I saw some problems coming...
I have questions for everyone... Especially the guys in Germany:
1. Do you treat your hens for worms? I'm used to deworm my dogs regularly with actual medicine... I asked around my chicken club, but they don't do it at all...
2. How do you treat your chicken for coccies? We don't...
Hey abpatchy, your roosters look so roosterly already😂 . Mine looked like hens... With the male colouring. But finally, during our holidays they started growing some tail feathers now. Nothing impressive yet...🙈
Hey abpatchy,
How are your winners doing in this heat? We have about 33 degree Celsius here now... And our hens are already panting with their beaks open and lifting their wings. I wonder what they will do in a real summer heat wave. We're down in the rhine valley, we will have up to 40 degrees...
Hello 👋,
Here an update of our little ones: all 8 look great, are growing fine and now they roost in the Christmas tree :D . It looks so funny. When they're allowed outside they venture a bit further now. But the broody still tries to keep them close to the run.
We had a visit from the fox this morning. Luckily our run is dog proof, so the fox did not stand a chance. But our ladies freaked out none the less. After about ten minutes he gave up.
It's been out first time. Normally the predators are happy with the neighbouring chicken... All less guarded...
Mine just found out that the world is not one flat surface with obstacles on top. They climb everything now and already practice flying... They're not even two weeks old :)
We had a brooder setup within the actual run of the older hens. Merely a small cage with even smaller box for the broody to sit on the eggs without being disturbed by the others. Of course she had everything in her she needed. For the first two days we kept her and the little ones in there. Then...
Hello 🤗,
We have 8 lively chicks now :). 3 boys and 5 girls. All survived the first week, all look super healthy and mommy is a great protector and super caring for her chicks. The babies are allowed to do anything (even picking her eyes ) . Out older bunch of hens is great too... They...
Oh now I wasn't checking for a few weeks and everyone has new chicks . Congrats to you all and the nice little fluffy balls :).
We finally got our own broody :weeshe is sitting on 13 eggs since Friday evening... She does a great job so far. Before we gave her the real eggs she was already...
Your sulmtalers.... Do they fly?
I checked them and they look great with their funny heads. In the character description it said they'd be good flyers... It would pretty much rule them out for us...
I'm happy for you, that your eggs look good!
That might actually save us one day
We already went from "only 4 hens, no roosters, never breed" to "chicken are great, let's get two more to be able to hatch some, the work will be the same after all and it will be great for the kids" to "if there's a real nice rooster hatching we will...
We don't have much experience yet, but the Bielefelders shouldn't go broody... That's why we have the two wyandottes... We don't want broodys all the time so we have mostly the Bielefelders and we will only add other "non broody" breeds for now.
