Thank you for the information about bad moms. I was blessed. When one of the hens in my coop hatched out an egg (only 1 hatched) she was a great mom, but even better, all of her coop mates turned into great moms. All the hens actively took part in helping to raise the chick. No scuffles...

My lack of experience with broodys is showing, but does it mean that once a bad broody, always a bad broody? Can it mean she knows they're not her own chicks, or that she's on the young side, and not prepared to care for them?

I've been MIA too. The chemo brought on a case of shingles. I've been out of commission. I never thought I'd say it, but the shingles are worse than what I've experienced with this new chemo. Of course, I'm fairly early into the chemo, so that could change before it's done.

Fishy, https://www.sweeterheater.com/ They're the safest way to heat your chickens in the winter, with minimum risk for fire hazard. I think it was Ron Ott, but it may have been Sourland that suggested them to me. Of course, there were other more pressing, money draining things that had to be...

Check into electric fencing. Not for the entire place, but for your chicken area. I know it's somewhat more costly, but works best as a long-time solution. Mine has done a wonderful job. It's protected my chickens from stray cats, dogs, opossums, raccoons, coyotes, a wolf, a bobcat, and a...

All I can say is, you'll have to empty it more often during those times in the seasons when the dog is shedding more. At least it has decent suction, and a decent charge time, which is more than I can say for most of the others.

We have a heavy duty iron filter, and a softener. The iron in this area is off the charts. On one end of this county, where we live, there is really high iron. On the other side, it's high sulfur. There are areas with good water, but that's not where we live. I have to say, the aerator does...

Our water quality has been going downhill for awhile now. The new water equipment people, are out here fixing it now. They were talking putting all new media, and rebedding it. I thought we had only lived here about 4 years, so the medium was only about 3.5 years old. Nope, Dh checked, and...

I woke up seriously congested. I've been fighting allergies like crazy, this year. Of course, Dh and most of my neighbors are out mowing. Yes, that'll help my allergy situation (sarcasm).
