Thank you for your patience! Yesterday I got some Derp photos. Of course she was just too busy for me and my camera, so I had to distract her with a snack...
OH A DANDELION WOW
Back to Derpin' around, lookin' for SLUGS. YUM
Okay maybe one more dandelion. THANKS FUD LADY
Slug time again!
WOW!! What a memory you have! Yes indeed... I wanted a hen named Thistle! I named one Thistle 7 years ago and it turned out to be a rooster and required a name change. This Thistle is for sure a girl, thank goodness! I think I mentioned that just once... those seven years ago? I would pay for a...
Yes! They all have names except the little rooster. That one is a struggle, I like silly rooster names but want one that is easy to say because I always end up yelling the rooster's name more than anyone else's, lol!!
The hens are:
Bumblebee, Fungus, Ganymede, Larkspur, Thistle, Bracken...
Here are a few more photos of the new girls. I'll try to get a photo of Derp this week now that we are finally getting spring weather! She laid an egg yesterday... the first in over a year and a half! Wow, Derp... I didn't even know you still had that option!! Haha!
Bumblebee:
Sunshine...
@KayTee Thank you! You talking about your Bieles in the "breed focus" thread (last year I think??) was one of my deciding factors on this breed. I initially was going to go for Crested Cream Legbars, because they are very beautiful to me and I ADORE their crests, but I read some mixed things...
Haha, hello, good to see you both! The Bielefelder chicks are so friendly. They actually get quite upset when I leave the room, which is hard for me to do, but I need them to be at least a little bit independent! They are very cute and I love them so. Here are a few of them this morning, 18 days...
I think over the years I have lost most of the Derperella fans to the ether! That's okay, life gets at us all.
Yesterday while cleaning the brooder, the chicks were out briefly. These chicks are so friendly! They all had to be on my arms (and legs) for a giant cuddle puddle. All 9 chicks were...
I almost forgot! Here's a funny story. A few of my friends wanted to watch live streaming video of the chicks as I mentioned in a prior post. I figured a way to make it public on youtube, and without thinking for a moment what it might sound like to non-chicken-people, I named the stream "CHICK...
The new babies are growing SO FAST! We sadly did lose the smallest, very weak chick, after about a week of trying to help her get going. I think she may have had developmental problems as she had a big scab from her egg yolk sac and she had trouble from the start. We are very sad that she didn't...
So far, things are going well with the new chicks! I sure wish I could see the reactions of a few of my motherly adult hens (like dear Derp!), but I must maintain strict quarantine until the chicks build immunity, since I have had Marek's in my flock before. Changing clothes every time I go out...
They are so near! Tracking has them at our regional sorting facility (and no, they won't let me pick them up from there... I tried that years ago!). Hurry, babies, and get here safe!
My chicks are supposed to ship today and I'm a nervous wreck, refreshing my email to get the tracking info! This will be rough until they arrive safe and sound!
I'm getting Bielefelders from Greenfire. I'm hoping with all my heart that they are as healthy and friendly as everyone says! I had to get girls as my rooster is very handicapped and I know another rooster could easily harm him, and Bielefelders are an auto-sexing breed so I shouldn't have the...
Currently vibrating with nerves over my new chicks next month! I sure do hate having to worry about them in shipping!! I'll be around more often once the new little ones get here and I'm feeling more optimistic again. My ship date is April 3...
These photos were taken this summer, I just hadn't had the chance to share them yet. The photos with me in them were kindly taken by my husband, the "Fud Guy".
The Fud Lady learned early in the season that supervised free-ranging time was made infinitely more complex by the newly blossoming...
I was going to write up a post here about Moa... It's been a week since we lost her, and it's still hitting me very hard. I am alone a lot, and it meant more to me than I realized to have a feathered friend like her that would listen to me, give me hugs (really!), and just spend time with me...
