I'm getting much fewer eggs also. For, at least the last week. We were averaging between 14-18 eggs per day-usually half bantam and half standard. Only bantams are broody but the big girls have slacked off too. Some I see in the nest box and they don't lay an egg.
We got 8 today 5 out of 12...
Haven't been counting lately. I have two with babies and five broody. And there is an egg eater! I made a soap egg and a mustard egg. Soap egg worked best, but hasn't stopped the breaker. If I can figure out which it is, she may go to freezer camp!
Yesterday we got 8 bantam eggs out of 8 girls that don't have babies or are broody.
All 5 brown egg layers laid, including the EE that lays brown
Both Buttercups laid - my only white egg layers.
Of 7 EEs that lay green, we got 5 eggs.
So 20 eggs yesterday!
20! New record!
I have 15 one year old girls. 7 are standard, the rest are bantam (mostly Cochin and OEGB)
There are 8 standard pullets (6-7 months). And four bantam.
So layers and "better start soon layers" total 31, subtract the three broody girls- 28.
i think 20 out of 28 is pretty good as...
17. New record. Not getting many eggs from our two Buttercups. Maybe four a week total. It does look like more of the pullets are starting to lay. 32 that should be laying. Two broody Cochins, though. Must still be some not laying ( and those two slacker Buttercups)
Got 15 today! That's a record. Plus I have two broody. I also saw no evidence of broken or eaten eggs, but I will continue to offer the soap and mustard eggs along with keeping the fake eggs in the nests.
So, 12 bantam and 7 standard hens, 2 bantam and 6 standard pullets, making 15 eggs out of...
But once you wash them, you can't set them back under the broody. I was more worried about lots of partially developed babies, but I think she had already been harassed and abandoned the nest.
They got egg on all the other eggs. They are then sticky, covered in dirt, dust, shavings, poop. The seven I had originally put in for the one trying to go broody had been abandoned, I was just hoping she would change her mind. It was a large egg that was broken, maybe more than one, and every...
Would have had 14, but someone broke an egg in the nest where I was working on a semi broody pullet. Wrecked the other 10 that were in the nest. That left 10 eggs to go in the house. All either bantam or new layer. None were very big. There may have been more, but we have been dealing with a...
13 today. Neighbor kids came with my daughter to watch us put the birds up for the night. They were amazed by the green and pinkish eggs. I let them each pick two to take with them and sent another dozen with them, just because... -because we have 7 dozen and no buyers. :lau I think everyone and...
Thanks, each day seems better until the sun sets and the nonstop coughing begins. 😒. Several of the EE eggs are bluish, but I couldn't get the lighting to show it on my phone. We love our dark layers! We have had there double yolks this week!
I forgot to count. I've been in bed with the flu and today felt like checking on everyone. I discovered that all three of our original EEs are laying steadily:
From top- Thestrel, Dotti, Teach
This looks like three of the six newer EEs are laying:
And both new bantam EEs are laying:
Now to...
