We got our polycarbonate roofing panels from Home Depot---brand name Suntuf. We ended up ordering them online (free delivery to the store) and got ridge caps too. Lots of color choices, including clear. We got Solar Grey. The panels are wavy. We bought all the recommended stuff for installation...

Beware the string!!! We did the same thing. My DH got trapped in the run a while ago when the string broke. He tried to McGiver his way out of it but failed. I came out of the shower and noticed the dog staring out at the coop and thought a predator was out there and ran over to the window. Uh...

The way I have it positioned it's about 1.75." I can make it higher. I raised the height of the feeder today. After reading some of the posts about feeder height in BYC it looks like the height of the top of the trough is supposed to be at the the height of the lowest point of the smallest...

I thought it was a good design too. The sides are adjustable so you can regulate the amount of feed going into the trough. Right now I have it on the lowest level. I'll go out and measure the sides later. The feeder is 16" wide and the pan is 26" so I am hoping that, for the most part, the...

My girls bill out a LOT of food. They'll randomly peck at the food on the ground but eat mainly out of the feeder. I'm getting a 26" round water heater pan to put underneath and hope that I can save some of that food. If not, I'll go to a bigger washing machine overflow pan. About once a week I...

Damn it, the property near us was just shown to some buyer. We should have gone bigger. I could kick my freakin' self, over and over, for doing this. I have a lovely piece of land which is (THANK GOD) bordered by protected wetlands but I still have restrictions. Craving some Pygmy goats and have...

Oh I feel your pain. I was an LPN for 19 years before I got my RN. Total of 44 years---nurses' aide to LPN to RN. So underappreciated, no matter where we are in the scheme of things. Retired now for about three years and have to laugh when friends say "Don't you miss it?" No, I do not. No...

"Scrub top"??? Are you a medical type person? I retired as an ICU nurse a few years ago. LOL...I remember messing up the laundry with a pen in my pocket...life goes on. The last washer/dryer screwup involved a Sharpie that HE was using to mark lumber for the chicken run. I forgave him and moved...

OMG is your husband living a dual life??? He is exactly like mine!!! I try to keep him away from my garden and any other projects I am working on. He always has the bigger and better and superior "suggestions." And he ALWAYS wants to "help," lol! From laundry to making beds to cooking----GO...

Yeah, really. She is 93 now and in a nursing home near my sister who lives in the Decatur area. Very sad that she lost her home of almost sixty years but grateful that she is warm and dry and safe and well taken care of. Makes you realize, though, that the unthinkable can become a terrible reality.

No, but my mother lost her home in Super Storm Sandy. And she now lives in Texas. North of Dallas so she's okay.

I only have six girls so it is easy for me to talk---I am buying a collapsible dog pen to put in our house (somewhere---we have a dry basement and a garage) in case of a hurricane. I'll toss a big sheet over the top to keep them from wandering and plop everything on a tarp with some pine...

My husband and I are getting up there in age too (almost 63 and 69) and we really need those breaks. There was a bit of a push to get the run done because we had rapidly growing chicks in our office but under normal circumstances we take those breaks!

You can get 1.5" staples and put them in with a compressor-driven gun every inch or so with hardware cloth. I'm not sure raccoons would be able to pull them out. If you are using a manual staple gun I think the longest staple you can get is only 1/2" and lightweight and I could see a raccoon...
