International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

They are gorgeous. I have Black Coppers, and I love them but I would really really love to be able to add a few of those girls just for eye candy.

That White tail buff is stunning. Do you know if that variety is available in the states? I love my BCMs and my mom loves our Buff Orps. A few girls running around looking like that would make us both happy.

Here are a couple more pictures I took of Basil this afternoon. I'm not happy with most of them as he is sorta skeptical of the camera and spent most of his time trying to be directly under my feet.

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I'm wondering if him being late to color up is a good thing. He was broody raised by my game hen and hangs out a lot with his daddy. He's smart, and so far respectful. Not in your face friendly, but especially in the evenings before it's time to roost will come sit by me and enjoys a good chest...

What do you all think of this boy who is 12 weeks tomorrow. His Copper is finally starting to come in. My daughter wants to keep him as our 2nd boy. Did not plan to keep him as I had another older sibling but at 7 months he turned mean and I will not keep a mean boy. She just has too may friends...

This is Bunny's egg, in a few months I'm hatching some of that girls eggs. I love the dark spots all over it.

I should let those people borrow my old game hen for 3 months, actually do not think it would take that long. Her goal in life is to be raising chicks. She hangs on to them for about 4 months, and then when she starts back laying, you'll get about a week if that before she's hiding her eggs...

Got to love a girl like that. I much prefer to let the momma's do all the work, they can teach them so much more then I can. Holly last year laid for a month before she went broody. Gave her 7 eggs and she hatched out and raised 6. I suspect she's thinking of doing it again, spending longer on...

Clover and 2 out of 3 of the Holly girls are laying now. They have been laying for almost 2 weeks now. Here are a couple of their eggs.

The picture of the angry girl I posted yesterday. This is what she gave me this morning.

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

One of the Holly x Drumstick girls at a bit over 6 months old. She was very angry in this photo as she was needing to lay and all the nest boxes were taken. She proceeded to spend 30 minutes yelling at me until a box opened up.

Thank you for your input Chooks Man. I'll freely admit when I got my Marans I had no clue what I was looking for. At the time my flock consisted of barnyard mixes that my stray game hen had hatched off. Prior to this years ago my only experience with chickens was when i was younger and my dad...

And for fun, this is what most of my pics of the last group of chicks look like. They knew I had their favorite treat dried cranberries in my pockets.

And finally we have the Holly x Drumstick babies. This group is the hardest to take pictures of as everyone either wants in my lap or are demanding treats. I actually love that they are so friendly, but it backfires when you try to take a decent picture of them.

Clover's full 2 sisters Remi and Blackie. They were hatched and being raised by my game hen who is still hanging onto them and has no sign yet of letting go even though they are already bigger than her.

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Went out and got some pictures of everyone. Not very easy to do when everybody wants to mob you thinking you have treats...which i did lol. First up 2 more of Clover since she sorta posed for me a bit today. That is rare for her as she still HATES the camera. I love this girl and can't wait for...

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thank you Chooks man, I'm very happy with her. I went back and checked dates on when she hatched and she is 19 weeks old now. I've got to get out and take some more pictures but i have 4 chicks from Holly x Drumstick who are 15 weeks old, 1 cockeral and 3 pullets, and 2 more full siblings to...

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Clover is growing up and reminds me so much of her momma Daisy just with a better tail set. She is not a lap chicken like Daisy but will eat out of my hand and tolerate her back stroked for a minute or two.

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

She is a Black Copper Maran. Sadly she did inherit her mother's clean legs. I know my birds are not perfect, But for a introduction into them they have sold me on the breed. Especially little Clover's parents. Drumstick is the most gentle boy and will hop up in your lap if you sit down outside...

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Clover is 9 weeks old tomorrow. So far I'm liking what I'm seeing. I just wish more of the eggs had hatched. She's also getting friendlier to me now that her surrogate mother has decided her 2 chicks are old enough that she doesn't have to try and beat me up for just looking at them.
