To make things easier, I cull birds hatched after June 1. Makes for easier comparisons in fall. It is my opinion the spring hatched birds are better than summer hatched. Difference is environmental, not genetic.
What are the differences in spring vs. summer? Ive heard this somewhere...

I use numbered wingbands for the broodfowl. And toe punch the offspring. Make an index with the best description you have of each numbered brood bird.
example: #274= pure green leg hatch from so & so. Pea comb, lemon hackle, hatched 3/2007, son of #110 & #225. And so on.
Do the same...
Hello every body! Some nice looking birds I see. Glad this thread has kept going. Here's a couple of my favorites from this year. A Kelso cross, and a pure shorty grey.

I lived in NC for about a year. I only met one fella in Greensburg. Had some nice Black Roundhead, and Kelso, and some grey's. I may still have his # if that's not too far from ya.
No way anybody could answer that from that pic. I have some Kelso hens that look similar. But worth in games is determined more by knowing a solid history of their lineage, and how consistently they breed, ect ...
A person may be able to guess closer if we could see her stance, and better...
I haven't seen gamefowl that don't do well free range. It helps to have a hen show the chicks the ropes though. Incubator hatched chicks can have good instinct, but still benefit from the hens education.
Your request is pretty vague. Any preference in color, type, or size? I have a lot of hens...

Not sure exactly your question. I'd say your calling the color patterns correctly. Except for maybe the grey comment. I dont see any sign of grey in that photo. I would say those two hens most likely would throw similar offspring. I would guess bred to a BBR colored rooster the Wheaton...
Saladin, do you have any pics of what your willing to part with? I really prefer a dark Smokey blue over a red blue or gold blue. I have access to some American bred blue's that are real nice and have no red genes at all, but I would rather not use anything other than asil to start with. Maybe...
Thanks, Pop. Actually, I was hoping the white might dilute the black and I could eventually get some blue. A couple of the pullets have some white feathers here and there. I think if I breed them back to a white I bet I'll get some spangle. Not exactly the result I was shooting for, but they...

I sent you a pm Chris.
Asil's are going well, didn't get as many hatched as I wanted to this year, but real happy with the ones I did.
These are current pics of this years oldest stags. Hatched 1/11/11.
And his brother from another mother. Moms a black rampuri.

Hello. I was wondering where you got that sweater? I ask because he looks exactly like some I raised last year. They were a yellow leg Kelso rooster bred over a Marion rose hatch hen. Your bird is a carbon copy. Especially the shape of his head. Everything I've raised from that cross...

Really nice. Would you consider selling a pair? Or maybe a trade? I could send you a pair of white asil, or any of the lines I have for that matter. Seriously.
Sorry Chief,
I don't plan on letting any birds go this yr, only hatching eggs if anything
Not sure about that either.Just...
