    Both feet entirely swollen

The secretion was of a cottage cheese consistency, look and color. Reading that article does make me think that is what it is but I would think, given the causes that some others would have it. Still going to keep an eye on her for today, soak her, the make a decision.

    Both feet entirely swollen

Thanks eggssive. This might be multiple things based on your question then. MOST of what came out was thick and vicious however I one part on the top of her foot, which happened to be the largest lump, that came out thin and watery like a water gun. Thinking about it makes my stomach turn again...

    Both feet entirely swollen

Thanks for the responces. I looked for splinters or scabs and didn't find anything unusual. I will try to soak her feet in Epson salt water though. Should I continue to reopen the incisuons I already made and see if there is more puss to come out would of be best to let those heal up? There...

    Both feet entirely swollen

I was watching my chickens today and noticed one of them with 2 very swollen feet. I thought it might be bumblefoot so I took her, covered her head as in the past, and laid her on her side to thoroughly check both feet for the tale tale scab but there were none. Both her feet look completely...

    Tips of combs are black

Thanks. I guess it might be colder at night than what I realize. Is there anything to do about frostbite? I heard putting vasoline on the combs help. Can anyone verify?

    Tips of combs are black

Four out of 10 of the chickens comb tips are turning black. They went from red to white to black in about a day and a half. I looked up what it might be and saw some disease that had worms in their stool or frostbite. So I looked at their stools and never saw any worm and the temps haven't...

    Breeding rabbits

Am I doing something wrong? I have 1 buck and 2 does. The 2 does ranged from 7 months to 1 year and the buck is over a year. I've had them for about 2 months now and out of the 2 does only one of them has tried to mate with the buck and that was a one time deal. I have yet to have any of...

    Preparing a rabbit hide

I'm new to preparing skins. I have rabbits that I breed for meat. When I skin them the skin is generally in good shape so I was wanting to use the skins for a blanket or something, (yes, lots of skins.) Anyway, I don't know what to do after I skin the rabbit. Do I cure the pelt? Do I tan...

    Broody leghorn?

I lured her out with some scratch, tossed some in a separate area and closed the gate. She is now separated from the rest of them with no eggs to lay on. I'm hoping this will break her of it as I have no rooster so no little chicks will come of her brooding. I do have more than 1 nesting box...

    Broody leghorn?

I have a leghorn that just started laying. I've read and been told that leghorns don't go broody all that often which is why I write this. I went out earlier today and she was in the nesting box. I figured she was laying. I went back later and she was still there. Ok, she's having a bit of...

    Summer blues

Thank you very much for all the information. I have started nursemaiding her and am treating the rest of the flock with dosage as well. Hopefully this will keep them healthy too. Thank you again.

    Summer blues

I'm not exactly sure what ML/CC means but it looks like your saying I'm supposed to put 19ML of corid in the 2gal of water and then take an eyedropper for her in particular?

    Summer blues

So it's spring time and, as I though, sickness is starting to get into my flock. One of the pullets I have, probably 8months or so, had poop on its butt that was caked. I did what I could to clean it off but I have also noticed that she has been less active today, standing around much of the...

    How long do leghorns lay

I bought these leghorns in the middle of July of last year and they had just started to lay at that time. I was wondering how long I should expect an egg every day like she has been given me. I've heard different things. Some say that should only last for 1 year going everyday then start...

    laying egg on floor

I use the deep litter method and my young chickens have just started laying. Most are doing good, they are taking after the older chickens and laying in the egg nest which is about 18 inches off the ground. But there seems to be one pullet who wants to lay her eggs in the wood chips/saw dust...

Momma said there would be days like this....

Quote: I went into the chicken coop at night to put them away and make sure that everyone was there and ok and when I looked at her on her roost I noticed yoke,(not the yellow yoke but the clear stuff,) hanging out of her vent and when I put her in the warm water I also saw what was a soft...

Momma said there would be days like this....

Thank you for all the condolences. And as far as the hawks are concerned, it sounds like my chicks and adult chickens will be confined to their run for a bit, at least when I'm not out there to watch them.

Momma said there would be days like this....

I think when we get another puppy it will be from an independent licensed breeder then. And as far as the hawks migrating south.....I pray not. The hens have been penned up all day, and although the run is plenty large enough for them, they like going out into the yard and doing their thing.

Quote: Woke up today and did another search and no luck. I did put the other ladies on lock-down though. They are none too happy about it but better safe than sorry.

I can only hope the same happens. I would be so happy to see that.
