i dont think thats a good hunch to go on. make SURE at least one of those birds knows how to use it. and yes you will most deff. see them or hear them hitting the bottle. they make a sound that is unmistakable. quail are smart. but not geniuses how would they know theres water in it if they...
just sqeeze the bottle after the quail have realized there is water dripping from there and they dont have anywhere else to get it from they will drink from them no problem. and like stated already once one does it or knows how all the others will figure it out in seconds.
6am? hahaha try 4am and they crow allll stinkin day. noway to stop it. you'll be able to hear his crow through the windows i garentee you! your neighbors will still know theres a rooster in your house. only thing you can do it plain and simple. ask your neighbors what they would think if you...
i keep one of my groups of quail on a wire raised floor. i think they are the cleanest looking ones and the easiest pen by far to maintain. my ground pens are a pain in the butt to clean i have to get on my hands and knees and climb into them to scoop everything.
I put a squarefoot area for them...
around 4-6 months you can expect a clear crow from your cockeral.
17 weeks is when they say hens should lay. although like stated above they are individuals and you cant time it out by the exact week always. expect eggs from 17-20 weeks old.
the rooster should be breeding as soon as the hens let...
you cant control it. mine crow at 4 am in the pitch black and at 8 at night right before last light... if you think its going to be a problem i would find a new home for him now.
your bird is a jake. clear wattles and bright red on the face. im almost 100% just by a picture.(p.s. hens can strut up a storm and iv even heard them do a "gobble" before... so dont go by sounds or displays in domestic birds. go by weight, and the structure of the wattles up the snood.

Japanese Quail seem to have my attentions overall i now have roughly 40+ aldult breeders holding in pairs to colonies and so on. mostly Texas A+Ms to Jumbo wilds and everthing in between.
I am a hatch addict. my incubator seems to never stop running unless it's being cleaned out! right now...

really? you run one of these?
IMHO nothing beats a proper home built cabinet incubator... when built properly they will last as long as you will run it for. replacing fans is dirt cheap, and if doin tape it's inexpensive as well as bulbs. coiling is a different story. but my HOME built...
i do. however with this cold and all i am getting less eggs if any most real cold days here in NE PA. once spring rolls around i can ship eggs and aldult breeders to you as well. just not one for messing around with cold weather. (i really doubt the eggs would stay viable and the jumbo adults...

MORAL OF THE STORY~~~ DONT BELIEVE ADVERTIZING
i'v sold birds to guyas starting out training their dogs... they all gave me returns and all were very satisfied with the results. i;v even hunted over a dog that was trained off of my coturnix. fantastic...
i tried housing button in with my lovebird aviaries and it went horrible...brother had a parakeet not too long ago and i tried button in his cage too... ugly. then a cockateil, just as nasty to them as the lovebirds. for this matter i dont house buttons with "parrots" anymore. i put too much...
