Okay... I love my Roo and the ordinances say I can not keep him because of his crow. Is it possible to surgically silence his crow? It may be a crazy question, but I just had to ask. I don't want to have to give him up... he is so sweet and adorable! He even protects his flock of ladies...
After 6 years of living with my wonderful peeps I think I have finally figured out how to keep them safe... Flight top netting covering 100 x 75 foot run, automatic door, 6 niteguards, buried fence and actually have a roo for the first time who is very quiet and protects his girls. I just love...
I bought some silkies too - from Vicky of VJP Poultry! They are so adorable and very healthy looking. I also bought a bucket of small koi to put in my pond. It was a small swap but still worth the trip from Elk River. I am anxiously awaiting the next show... Is there one in New Ulm in June...
Yes... finally a poultry swap I can fit into my schedule! I am sooo excited. I need a few more peeps to add to my flock! Can't wait until Saturday. Heading there from Elk River... doesn't seem to far. I would love a couple blue or splash silkies. My fingers are crossed.
Being a reptile enthusiast, I would say relocate it! I had a mink kill all of my wonderful hens and I swore I was going to kill it when I captured it... I couldn't. It was just doing as nature intended. I relocated him many miles away... and did a bit of rethinking predator proofing!
Good...
I have been going through the same thing. I bought 18 chicks at the farm store I have gotten chicks from for years never experiencing a single death. Since I picked them up Friday the 15th all of them have died one and two at a time. The last one died today. They start breathing hard and...
I live in Elk River, MN. We have 17 chickens - egg layers and a few pet silkies. We use part of our garden shed (6x10 of it) for our chickens. We built on a 12x12 covered run on the side of the shed, where their food and water is, that we cover in clear plastic for the winter. We don't heat...
I noticed this Mallard drake and a hen in my pond this morning. I have never seen anything like this in the wild. Could it be a 'pet' that got away or does this kind of mutation happen in mallards often?
I just bought a half dozen broiler chicks from the local farm store... they always have a huge variety of chicks, duckling, goslings, turkey and pheasant chicks on hand. It is a great place in Anoka, MN for anyone in this area.
I thought maybe one of my broody silkies might take to these...
I have a 60 pound sulcata tortoise who is only 10 years old and is going to just keep growing! I have had her since she was just a hatchling and fit in the palm of my hand. She will live over a hundred years. Living in Minnesota she has to be kept inside half of the year. She has her own...
I had 4 foot tall fence and recently made it 6 feet tall. The hens were flying out even though I clipped their flight feathers. The 6 foot fence is keeping them in. I use game bird top flight netting to cover my run. I'd love to see pics. Go to photobucket.com and they will take care of...
My daughter (four at the time) came up with my name by accident. We just received our baby chicks last Easter and she was watching them and had a comment... "Mom, there sure is a lot of chickie pooh in there... and they are stepping in it!" I laughed so hard. She comes up with some funny...
Cute! I wish I had room for more chicks! I will have to cull out some hens next year and get some new chicks. I love seeing everyones pictures. It is so much fun to see everyones chickens, coops and chicken runs.
I got my chicks from a feed store and they look great! I guess it depends on where they get the chicks from. If you want show quality birds you probably want to find a breeder that shows their chickens because they breed for the ideal breed standards. Hatcheries breed for quantity but not...
