Not yet - still in design - I build it from the existing tool shed - it is not insulated yet, however - I succeeded to raise the temperature there to about 0C, with my mock-up heater prototype, , having outside temperature of -25C.
Thanks for details - I have build my dog's house with insulation and 2x2 insulated baseboards, however - there are times, I am not home and she is outside, and here in Calgary temps can drop down fast to -30 or so, so I must use additional heat source to kick in to ensure safe of the dog. As I...
I just thought - for another reason it might happen - the lamp fixture says 300W - check your lamp for power - if it is close to 300W - try changing it to 250 max.
I have couple of cats, and find them very comforting. After spending some time with chickens, I find them comforting and calming :thumbsup . So you treat them like your pets, right?
Some people , whom I spoke with, like having a coffee time in a cozy chicken coop - they (the chickens of course) are very comforting ☕. I wonder what makes you keep them, and not just enjoy wild birds?
Hi guys, I was wondering today: how come I started to think about having my own chickens?:jumpy. Afterall it is all started from engineering the perfect heater for my dog, and now - after taking a nice journey and having so much communication with backyard chicken owners, farmers, and hobby...
Unfortunately, in a cold place like ours - solar and batteries will not be reliable: battery will need to be charged again and again, and solar is not enough, both sun-vise and power-vise. Thus is cold places it is better to rout an electrical supply to the coop. However - it is easier to set up...
The idea is to make no modifications to the coop. So if you happen to have an existing ventilation for example - the inner recirculation will help to draw fresh air naturally without causing a draft. However if the coop is in a need of fresh air (according to my research it might happen if the...
Hey guys - thanks again everyone for the feedback and the comments! Since I am new at hobby farming, I wanted to hear from experienced people. My concern was the heater (or the climate controller, which I couldn't find up to my satisfaction on the market. I going to build a forced air, ideally...
That's a good point (blowing dust around). I was thinking more of laminar flow - like in the house furnace register - this way dust is not blown, and same time there is better air circulation to benefit the circulation in dead air spots (like stink and ammonia). What do you think?
Different views here, and I agree - when we speak about a heater - people might think it is same as the house heater (temperature-vise) - but actually it is about maintaining the safe levels (around 35-40F?), when needed - (safety limits)?
So, concluding (please feel free to correct me) - the...
Thanks for sharing the knowledge! I still struggle about the switching ON/OFF the heater - like it is always ON - the thermostat setting cannot be lowered. So I need to do it manually. Anyone does it differently?
Hi TwoCrows, big thanks for the detailed explanation: About the rooster bars: I saw many use just branches or round type bars - but I see now, that actually using the 2x4s as you say is actually much better to help keep them warm. I was thinking about shelves first, but I think it might slow the...
