It's 57 right now at 6:50 in the morning. The highest will be 82, with a few showers in the afternoon. Hoping to get quite a bit of rain for the garden and flowers we are planting. It's been completely sunny with no clouds for the past few days, and the plants could use some water.
She looks like an Australorp to me. From what I can tell, she has the right color feathers as well as legs, beak and eyes that Australorps carry.
Does she have any golden or silver feathers on her neck?
That looks like a cockerel. As @FayeAndHisChooks pointed out, a Barred Rock hen is normally darker, and he also has a bigger comb. I have a PBR cockerel that is about the same age as yours, and he looks very similar.
I prefer broodies. Natural is normally better.
The bigger problem is you only ever have so many broodies and they can only hatch so many eggs, so if you want to hatch a bigger amount of eggs you have to use an incubator. Thankfully the batches of eggs that I have hatched in the incubator lived...
