    Gasping chicken

Her comb is still pale but she is not gasping. When the tylosin treatment finish, I added denegard to her water. 3 days later the gasping looks to have stopped. It’s looking up for her! I hope.

    Gasping chicken

Still gasping a little bit. Not as much as before. I have changed the water to give her Tylosin for a respiratory infection. I am doing the 7 day treatment. Which I am on day 5. I had to wait for it to arrive.

Yep I have cats. I feed them too. Here is an image of one watching the rats. They are inside the run with the chicken. Cat is outside….

    Smart rats

Thanks Al. There was no feed out at night until I tried the baking soda idea. Which I now know does not work. The poison bates do not work either as they ignore them. Plus I hate to hurt the natural wildlife in that may find them. Now I put a small amount out (just a small palm amount)...

    Smart rats

Last fall, I suddenly had rats that are living in and under my shed. The chicken run is behind the shed and the nursery coop is in a corner of my shed. The rats have eaten or removed all the insulation in the wall of the coop. My neighbor who never mowed his yard (about 4 acres) and left...

    Gasping chicken

Came home today to my serama chicken gasping. Her comb is pale too. Keeps closing her eyes too. She was vibrant red comb last weekend and earlier this week. Eating and drinking fine. Pooping normal as well. There are only 3 chickens in this coop/run. 2 seramas and one barred rock who is...

Official BYC Poll: Do You Wear a Mask or Respirator When Cleaning Your Coop?

No I do not wear a mask. My coop is off the ground and has a full size door on the end. I put a wheel barrel at the door and using a hoe pull it all into the wheel barrel. However I am outside. The nesting boxes are on the side with their own lift lid. I use a hand shovel to put the...

    Hello

Thanks! Yes I love the variety! And they get along wonderfully too. Well except for my golden girls. They are with babies right now and no issues there. The barred rock (Plum) lets them run all over her. The adults though find her as a weakness.

9 1/2 week old Barred Rock hen or roo?

Thanks. I am hoping they are. Super dark black leg wash on both of them. And Lily wings are half solid black with the tips white. Millie’s are striped too but more black. I just need to wait and see.
