Is this just chicken earwax? Or an infection?

I noticed I could not see the little fluff feathers that are next to Wanda-Sue's ears and upon closer inspection they were caked over. Some was black, others yellow/orange crusty substance. I snatched her up to her dismay and started removing the black parts. To my surprise she was very much...

Do Younger Ladies Have A Higher Chance of Laying Double Yolk Eggs?

New chicken nugget owner here of 8 sweet ladies, all different breeds. My girls were born end of April and most are coming into laying. If you look at the attached picture I was lucky enough to receive 6 yolks out of 4 cracked eggs today. How often does this happen? Is it because they are just...

Official BYC Poll: How Do You Optimize Your Hens' Egg-Laying Capabilities?

That's messed up people would do that. And those are really dumb criminals honestly. Very high risk for little reward. Trespass and possibly get shot for half a dozen eggs? I'll pass.

Official BYC Poll: How Do You Optimize Your Hens' Egg-Laying Capabilities?

Are you saying there are humans breaking into your coop and stealing eggs? If so that’s awful 😞

What type of sand can I use in a coop?

Use Torpedo sand aka Turbosand which is named River bed sand at the rock/paver place near me. It's a larger grit and you'll probably have to shovel bags yourself and weigh your truck/car before and after. I'd take care of the drainage problem first by removing some of the soil and using a level...

Woods Open Air Coop Scaled Down (Can I do a 4 x 10?)

Thank you! It's been kinda hard and frustrating at times, but I am proud of the build, especially it being my first wood working project ever. Youtube works!! Woods Open Air Coop Scaled Down (Can I do a 4 x 10?)

Update! Sorry for taking so long to reply to this thread. All that is left is one panel inside the run, the nylon netting for the top, and more cedar siding on the other side of the door

Woods Open Air Coop Scaled Down (Can I do a 4 x 10?)

Hey JT, I actually have the horse bedding pine shavings for the DLM. Do you mean you put larger chips in the front part of the scratch shed?

Woods Open Air Coop Scaled Down (Can I do a 4 x 10?)

Hey Ted, I will be doing the deep litter method in the back portion of the coop where they roost. I'm talking about the "scratch shed" area in the front with the windows. I know it needs to be a coarser sand than play sand, I'm just not sure what it's called.

Hey guys they’re about ready to go in the coop full stop, what type of sand do you use again? I know play sand is a no go, thanks!

Mixed bag of silkies? 10 weeks old. Please help sex, thanks

Hello everyone, I have two 10 week old silkies, please help sex, pretty sure I have the mixed bag of rooster and hen. The pics of the suspected hen are bad but she’s kind of skittish so I couldn’t get the greatest pics but she’s smaller than the one I think is a boy. Thank you in advance! 1...
