It should be fine! I have seen that man’s content and he does feed japanese beetles to his hens very often and if not daily. They are great sources of protein :)
It looks like rooster damage and/or damage by being picked on by the other hens. How many roosters do you have and how many hens do you have? How much run space do you have?
Thank you for the reassurance haha! Her crest is pretty nice looking and tight and I am glad she looks good as she is my only gold chick. Also, does this chamois’s crest look good as well? I am trying to see which chicks to keep and maybe breed if space and time allows. His spangles so far lean...
Update on a few of my chicks! I have two confirmed cockerels (bright red combs and wattles) and the rest for now seem to be pullets. The two confirmed cockerels fight each other a lot. I may end up selling one as there is a lot of tension in the brooder because of them.
My singular gold spangled...
x2! Honestly I would have figured that with all that comb and wattles at such a young age would mean a definite male at this age, but it is proving me wrong haha! I would update again when the chick is around 11-13 weeks old as thats when male specific feathering comes in.
The combs are very large and colorful for that age. The other chicks in that photo show very little if any signs of color on their combs and their combs are still very small.
I think I am seeing white chest feathers indicating a pullet. However I would wait another week for the feathers to come in more as any black chest feathers would be a 100% cockerel.
