Can antibiotics cause a DEcrease in production??

When I called my state lab they just transferred me to this vet. I described everything. He didn’t seem to think testing was necessary at that point. My goal was to get them tested but after talking to him and him being more the expert then me, I just did what he advised with the tylan.

Can antibiotics cause a DEcrease in production??

Well I did talk to a state avian vet and he told me that he didn’t think it was MG but that even if so the chickens would still produce eggs once their symptoms were better 🤷🏽‍♀️

Can antibiotics cause a DEcrease in production??

Well they did quit laying altogether for about a week two weeks before I started them on antibiotics, but they picked back up after that and during the round of antibiotics.

Can antibiotics cause a DEcrease in production??

My chickens were sneezing and coughing. Vet recommended Tylan 50 twice a day for 5 days orally. We completed the round of antibiotics and my chicken’s symptoms are much better! However, their egg production has nosedived since I quit giving the antibiotics. I have 8 laying hens and 6 eggs a day...

Tylan 50 for the whole flock

Update: gave my chickens Tylan 50 morning and night for 5 days. It definitely has seemed to help, however I still have a couple of them who continue to sneeze. Should I continue them on the medication or does the sneeze just take a while to clear after round of antibiotics?

Tylan 50 for the whole flock

The vet wasn’t 100% sure. Said it could be an upper respiratory thing combined with a bacterial infection of some sort or mycoplasma. My hens quit laying altogether for a week then they started back up again. He said this is a good indication that they are getting better but might need some...

Tylan 50 for the whole flock

Yes, I was talking about Tylan50. Thanks for the info! I wonder if it could be given in an amped up dosage twice daily instead. Can only catch them before going out of the coop and after coming back in.

Tylan 50 for the whole flock

So it can definitely be given orally? I am dealing with the same thing. I spoke to an A&M vet over phone who advised me to inject them morning and night but if I can give it orally I would much prefer that! I don’t feel completely confident with knowing how to inject properly as well as would I...

Topic of the Week - Nest boxes

I have 12 nest boxes they are wooden and closed on top, bottom, back and both sides…open only in front. ALL of my hens lay only in one box (second from the left). The other 11 boxes are a total waste of space haha. I use fake wooden eggs in there to deter snake friends. I gather fresh eggs twice...

To range or not to range…plus advice on flock illnesses

Thanks for including that website. Very informative! The symptoms started with one hen making a sneezing type sound every now and again and then they all began sneezing. Some of them shake their heads when they sneeze and others don’t. A couple of them have snot. One of the stretches it’s neck...

To range or not to range…plus advice on flock illnesses

I free range my chickens: 10 hens, 1 rooster, 5 15ish week old pullets and 2 15ish week old roos. They have access to 5 wooded acres all day since we moved here 5 months ago. Before moving here they had a large run (and I only had 1 rooster and 6 hens). I am so happy with them foraging and the...
