I understand your dilemma, and could be you're right (I'm not an expert at this), but I wouldn't want to seal off the wound totally, as that, for me, sounds just as bad, if not worse. If it was my problem, I'd take the chance of it getting through the wet weather OK.

I think the Bordeaux mix is a good idea, but I wouldn't be to quick to use a latex paint. Think about if you had a deep cut on your skin, you'd want it to breathe, right? I'm not at all familiar with brahmas. The Maline cockerel in my avatar is supposed to be around 14 weeks!!! I've had him for over 5 weeks, but would say he was younger... but I just don't know, He's a wonderful bird, but I'm not used to large breeds. At least I know he's a cockerel!

I'd wait a while, large breeds take their time.
