    Belgian Maline turned renegade!

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry for my late reply, but I wasn't notified of your post until today. I've had agressive male chickens in the past, but usually have been able to suss them out beforehand. However, this one is different - he's always been so tame and soulful - and agressiveness...

    Belgian Maline turned renegade!

I have a 10 month old Belgian Maline rooster (weighing in at around 12 pounds) who was the most gentle rooster I've ever had. He's great with his 8 hen flock, vigilant, very fertile, and gentle with the hens too, when mating (which seems to be all the time!). I couldn't ask more of him...

    Chick with foot problem

Thanks for the reply! I've read about all this, but been holding off taping her toes because it's the first time I've come across this. You could also be right about a leg brace too - I'm not sure at the moment. If anyone needs to see the leg from a different angle, I'll post other pics.

    14 weeks old Malines lifeless

Hi NorthwoodsChick, The Malines recovered quickly and started roosting and feeding with the others. She was fine for a couple of days, then on the second morning of being on the roost, I found her on the floor, lethargic and unable to keep her eyes open again, and would only let me feed her a...

    Chick with foot problem

Hi everyone, I have a two-day old NHR chick which has toes, on one foot, which bend at an angle from around the middle of the toe. She's very chirpy, socialising with the other chicks, and eating and drinking well. She's also very active, but stumbles around everywhere. I think that her leg...

What did you do in the garden today?

I understand your dilemma, and could be you're right (I'm not an expert at this), but I wouldn't want to seal off the wound totally, as that, for me, sounds just as bad, if not worse. If it was my problem, I'd take the chance of it getting through the wet weather OK.

What did you do in the garden today?

I think the Bordeaux mix is a good idea, but I wouldn't be to quick to use a latex paint. Think about if you had a deep cut on your skin, you'd want it to breathe, right? Rubber solution would seal it! That includes sealing any bad stuff in! I've found this which might help. Good luck, whichever...

    Question???

I put a concrete floor down over dirt - it was much cheaper than plywood, quicker to lay, easy to clean, and predator-proof, too

    14 weeks old Malines lifeless

Thanks for replying with those questions! :) Quite a bit of food in the crop (I've been feeding her). I use a growers pellets (Europe). Not free ranging at the moment, but I have wondered whether she could have been stung or bitten by an insect. Vent looks OK. No skin level infestation. Still...

    14 weeks old Malines lifeless

Hi, This morning (12 hours ago) I let the chickens out. A 14 weeks old Malines stayed on the roost. I could tell that something wasn't right as she's usually full of life, and one of the first out. Over the day, she's not eaten and has become more lethargic - she seems to prefer to keep her...

Brahma - this has to be a cockerel, right? Age?

I'm not at all familiar with brahmas. The Maline cockerel in my avatar is supposed to be around 14 weeks!!! I've had him for over 5 weeks, but would say he was younger... but I just don't know, He's a wonderful bird, but I'm not used to large breeds. At least I know he's a cockerel!

I'd wait a while, large breeds take their time.
