Our gimpy Salmon Favorelle is now an "inside" bird (inside our breezeway). She's pretty jazzed about it as she doesn't have to worry about getting stepped on or picked on. The rest of the flock has adjusted with no issues as to pecking order. #PetChicken #ChickenCondo
You have made my day. We have a small flock and already have one rooster. Convincing my hubby to get me more hens would have been challenging. lol Yay!!! Thank you!
Nice to meet you! I'm a newbie, too - we only recently got our first flock (June). It's addicting. lol Our pup (Honey B/Honey Badger) really doesn't know what to make of the birds still... She doesn't understand why she needs siblings if she doesn't get to play with them.
Look forward...
Just seeing this and extending my condolences. I lost my favorite this morning... So my heart is grieving with you. I feel I can tell you as my husband told me - "she likely knew she was your favorite, that she was loved, and that she had the best life a chicken could hope for." Sending...
Hi, Flock! I hope you're all well!
So, I've been giving my buff orpington cockerel crowing lessons - he's not interested. My barnevelder (Verity), however, immediately answers me back! In looking at specifics on the barnevelders, I'm wondering if "she" is not a "Verity" - but a "Ross"...
I've got a Salmon Favorelles pullet that has two "wonky" feet - the inner toes are curled up - it doesn't slow her down, either - or keep her from perching.
Do you know if toe issues like this are common in this breed?
I'm just sick. My 7 week Salmon Favorelle pullet is limping. When we examined her, one of her toes is bent backward(to the rear). She isn't complaining as she limps, but squeals when we try to touch it
She's not lowest on the pecking order - and the run is enclosed, so nothing could've...
Lots of wisdom there! Thank you. I will be taking your advice. I just asked a coworker (who worked for a farm supply store for years) if she could help me find a trustworthy young person who would like to earn some money by "chicken sitting".
Thanks so much for your input!! :)
Good morning to you and our feathered friends!
If one has to be gone for a time - either for work or for vacation, how does one ensure that your chickens stay fed, watered, and happy? We have a business trip/vacation coming up later this year and I'm wondering if my husband should go and I...
