Hi There,
Thanks for reaching out. Yes, like many here, life has gotten busy and we are running round like... LOL
I have 25 hens that are coming up on two years old and laying for a year and a half. We have been having lots of fun but this past winter and spring has been hard with all the...
This was such a great article and helped me to realize that I am doing what I need to and can now have the confidence to keep doing it. Thanks to all of you!
Thanks for this. I clean out the pen monthly and thoroughly too. They have lots of dust baths in the run as they made holes and are in them all the time. I was wondering if it is a diet thing or pecking from other hens
So I have noticed that the tail end of a few of my hens looks like they are losing their feathers and the spots seem to be getting bigger. Also one has this issue around her neck and I am concerned that it might be hen pecking or mites. Any suggestions?
So an update on my 26 Rhode Island Reds… I went from 14-16 eggs per day to 23-24 per day. Temps running avg between -2 to 9 C. They are doing great. Never had 26 yet but have had a few times of 20-22 and even a couple times of 25!!
Congratulations...as a recently new chicken egg farmer, I was you only three weeks ago! It is a very exciting time for sure. How many chickens do you have?
It is interesting...the last two days there have been no eggs outside at all and all but two or three of my 23 eggs layed were in the coop but not in the nesting boxes. I have 9 nesting boxes that are very easily accessible.
So most of my 26 young hens are starting to lay regularly now. Most are using he nesting boxes which is great. I have ping pong balls in the boxes so they know where to go. Although the balls are white and my Rhode Island Reds lay brown eggs...never thought that might be an issue...LOL...

I have 26 new hens that are coming up to 6 months old. They started laying about 3-4 weeks ago. I started off with a couple eggs a day with some of them without shells and or broken. Temperature during this time was around 9 C . 'For the next couple weeks the laying numbers began to increase...
Hi there...thanks for your reply. I have asked several other about my coop and they believe the way I have the roof vents that it is ventilated adequately. I have 5 inch vents on South and North top and 2 inch along the East and West sides. I was thinking about putting in a window but some...
I am so excited to be raising chickens again. I did this about 10 years ago and then lost my access to property to raise them so had to give it up. I have recently moved to an area where I have my kids living as renters on a farm that was more than happy to have me start a coop with layers. I...
