    First time with Freedom Rangers

This afternoon I was looking online at TSC and another store for some Cornish X. Nobody has them. But, The Duck N' Coop Hatchery, 45 minutes from me, suddenly has 200 freedom rangers for sale. I drove over, only got lost twice, and picked up 10 rangers for $3 each. If all goes well, I will...

    First time using incubator, question

My lovely hen was killed. I had six of her most recent eggs in the refrigerator and decided to hatch them. I wasn't happy with my DIY set up, so I bought an incubator at TSC. They eggs have to lay on their sides, there are no little cups for them. I thought you had to make sure the pointy end...

Winter Egg Laying and Adding Light

My hen started laying again. It happens every year, they stop then start up again. Everyone knows that if you leave a light on, they keep laying. Okay, but I just realized that with the longer days my chickens are eating more. They stop eating when the light is too dim. If I hold a light over...

    Brahma Feed

www.thefrugalchicken.com writes that a laying brahma hen should be fed 16% protein feed. That seems a bit low. Could it be because they are large chickens that lay medium to large eggs (a bit small for such a large bird)?

    Breeding

A few years ago, in Lexington Michigan, wild swans made a nest in the harbor. Harbor with pleasure boats and sheriff's boat. Tourists galore. They would have liked to take the parents and nest to a safer spot, but that is illegal. So, citizens patrolled the swan nest area 18 hours a day. They...

    My White Leghorn Laying Down

Blance, my white leghorn is 25 weeks old. She has not laid an egg yet. She lays down more than my Brahma hen, who is 20 weeks old. Is this cause for concern? She seems go walk around fine, acts like a healthy chicken, and eats well.

    Anyone Have Brahmas?

I bought light brahmas from TSC this year and like them. I am planning to breed my own and want to breed bets to best so I will be going to the poultry fair in October to get a few. I have read that the extra feathering causes problems. Has anyone had this breed? Any concerns?

    New to the Forum

Hello members. I have not had chickens in a few years but I couldn't resist the chicks in Tractor Supply this past March. I have 16 chicks. Four I just bought Saturday, in the nick of time. Nine are six weeks old, and three are 14 weeks old. The new ones are in the house with short excursions...
