Yet another (Canada based) de-worming thread! (GROSS PIC WARNING)

Sorry for the late response but the dosage for that is not per bird but per Gallon of water as their sole water source.

    Storing Grass Clippings for bedding

Last year I successfully used grass clippings throughout the summer as bedding. My mower catches the mulched grass in a bag and I'd spread it thin over a tarp on a hot sunny day, occasionally grab a corner of the tarp and flip the grass around. After a day or two it's bone dry and I basically...

Built a "chick introducer" in my run.

Here is a night time shot! I know people agreed that they no longer need supplemental heat but I will ween them off now since I've been providing it rather than cutting it off. I have a photo-cell (light) controlled electrical outlet that controls the heat lamp, last night and tonight its set...

Built a "chick introducer" in my run.

They made it through the night! And yes, I totally did wake up to check on them around 2AM! 😆

Built a "chick introducer" in my run.

I appreciate the reassurance, I'm just a bit nervous so I was going to leave it on at night for them for a few hours. It's about 5-6C (41) here at night and that heat lamp is a 175w bulb rather than the common 250w.

Built a "chick introducer" in my run.

Build this "chick introducer" in my chicken run out of all reclaimed materials aside from the screws and hinges. The frame came on a shipping pallet which was also used as the base. ^ Here is my dog doing some predator testing! The shelf is out front to treat the big...

    Roast my coop...

It's not as bad as you think it is for a first time coop made out of scraps. Good job, I'm sure it will get better over time!

What did you do in the garden today?

I know that feeling. I bought some dedicated chicken coop coveralls and muck boots and never looked back! :D

What did you do in the garden today?

Almost done (procrastinating) and have most of my new raised garden beds in place and ready for fill. Running out of time to get it done! 3 more planters to build on the tier just below this one.

    Chicken Playground Ideas

One thing I've heard about creating a shelf is that hens will tend to start nesting/laying eggs underneath it.

Can't you just turn it off when you use the gate?

Yet another (Canada based) de-worming thread! (GROSS PIC WARNING)

Just administered day 5 of the Fenbendazole treatment today! Last day! Going to give it a full week before I got back to eating the eggs just in case. From what I understand it is safe as long as the egg is fully cooked, and even if not most of the common worms that chickens normally get...

Caught my chicken red handed, eating an egg!

So every once in a while I'll find a broken egg in my coop, the current design isn't the best so I reworked it so it would be safer in the laying boxes I have. I then noticed busted up eggs in places they had no business being and started to get suspicious... Yesterday I opened up the coop to...

What the heck is a meat spot??

Yet another (Canada based) de-worming thread! (GROSS PIC WARNING)

I quickly realized that after I had posted! It's okay though, I got a lot of my info just from Google results that lead me to BYC. I figured if anything I would keep updating this thread so someone could Google it for themselves in the future which is why I used a lot of specific keywords in my...

Yet another (Canada based) de-worming thread! (GROSS PIC WARNING)

Over half way through the final treatment and I am seeing some major results, Galaxia, our sickest chicken (Black Copper Maran) actually laid an egg for the first time in weeks! I must be doing something right! Piece of advice for anyone trying to administer the SafeGuard paste specifically...

    Outside time

I can't see why not, it all depends on what kind of temperatures you've been keeping them under in the house. I just took my 5 week olds out and left them in a kennel for 3 hours with no problems as they have already feathered out. If it gets too drastically cold they'll pile together. From my...

    Worm farming for slackers

Are earthworms a good idea? I thought they were a vector for roundworm.

    heater questions

As mentioned I'd raise the brooder plate and angle it at a 30 degree incline, that way chicks can choose their "depth" under the brooder for their perfect temperature.
