Hi all,
I was recently given a few silkies & silkie mixes a lady could no longer care for. While they are dirty, they appear healthy. I suspect one has wry neck though. She also is doing this thing where she stretches her neck and opens her beak, I tried to get a photo…She is full grown. What...
1st timer here! I’m picking up a dozen F4 OE eggs tomorrow! I’ve also got a chocolate silkie sitting on 3 eggs!
Silkie eggs should hatch around Dec 15.
Does the 21 days for the OE eggs begin when I put into the incubator tomorrow?
Question- does the bottom right egg look fertilized?? I have my suspicion but won’t say just yet.
The reason I ask- I only have one hen laying eggs right now, my little silkie hen, and every day I’ve been taking them. Furthermore she’s molting! Then a few days later, I noticed she has gone...

Thanks so much, yes they have been a joy to watch. And I never knew how good chicken mommas are!
Aside from her squishing one, which honestly I think was a total fluke.
Here they are; about a month old now! Compared to a newly hatched silkie. They’ve grown fast and even have their little “pants” now! We lost 2, 1 to a predator and momma squished one… 🤷🏼♀️
They have come over out of curiosity, but momma put that to a stop real quick. They are a part of the flock now and even go off on their own a little bit!
Just sent the hubby to TSC to pic up Equimax. Now I haven’t noticed worms in other poo, but I assume I treat the entire flock as I did last time?
if I do need to treat the entire flock, I have 3, 2 week old silkie chick. Should I treat them? If so, how much should I give them?
I also have 8...
It seems like every day, I learn something new about my chickens… today it’s again the subject of poo… 💩
from what I’ve read quickly online I *think* it’s normal, but just wanted to check with y’all because let’s face it, I trust y’all more than I do google searches!
First of all...
** warning** graphic picture below.
hi all! I am wondering if someone can tell me what kind of worms these are?? I noticed worms in some chicken poo about a month ago amd wormed the entire flock with Safeguard (fenbendazole). I did the process where you treat orally on day 1 then repeat X days...
Meet (from L to R):
Autumn, Luna, Marigold and in the front, Stormy! :jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy
Since they hatched in the fall, I went with Fall themed names; except Stormy who hatched during a severe thunderstorm. Momma’s and babies are all doing well! :love
On an interesting note- they...
I thought the first 3 were small… holy moly she is TINY! I got a better look at her when I moved momma & baby back outside to what has now turned into the “nursery”.
she is small but she is mighty…. And a tough little cookie. ❤️
thank you all so much for EVERYTHING! Out of 5 eggs, we only...
Thank you! It was soooo nerve wracking! And to complicate things…. Here in central Texas, we are under a severe thunderstorm warning! As soon as baby hatched I moved mom and baby to my garage for the night… just to be safe.
And due to the storm… while I don’t know coloring yet, his/her name...
Hi all!
while doing my weekly cleaning of my brooder, I noticed one of my 4-5 week old crested polish has a little dried blood on her head feathers. Is this normal? Her sister is fine. They are in a brooder with 3 silkie chicks, 2 Russian Orloff chicks and 2 Black Langshan chicks. All are about...
I’m sorry if I wasn’t clear and my message was confusing. I meant moving mom and 3 chicks to hen house with an attached private run for them only. As the chicks got older, I would let mom in/out for breaks. The littles would stay in that coop, themselves, once they no longer needed mom until...
@Weeg @Chicken poppy Momma was up and out of the box today teaching the chicks how to ‘forage’. It was so cute watching her find crickets, holding them, then giving to each after calling them over.
My question… at what point should I move them out of the maternity ward and into their own pen? I...
