With WTB you may have unknown recessive genes show up in offspring, they’re basically a guaranteed blue laying EE, so you will most likely get a variety of colors no matter which rooster you keep. I do agree with post about getting an actual Ameraucana rooster if you want to maintain muffs &...
Awesome thank you so much for your help. The Faverolles eggs are currently in the incubator I’m 🤞 & planning on next year’s breeding projects 😂 & I’m really trying to get a grasp on genetics before I start actually trying to breed. She went broody & hatched out the first few, I hatched a couple...
Thank you! 😁 now I have another question about the Faverolles 😅 I know they are wheaten (can’t find the genetic codes at the moment) but I’ve read about some occasionally throwing a white, is it possible that some of the salmons might carry the recessive white gene as well? 🤞
Thank you so much! Here are a few of the chicks from her & the rooster.
Most have a crest & feathered legs but only one has had muffs, crest & feathered legs, the leg feathers on most of the chicks have been like Silkie feathers but the rest of their feathers are smooth. Looking back now it...
I am really trying to grasp genetics but it’s taking me a minute. If I cross a Salmon Faverolles rooster with a white Ameraucana hen will I get all Salmon colored Favaucanas?
I want to try & retain the white, I’ve searched for White Faverolles but it looks like they either no longer exist in...
I’m still waiting for my Easter hatches to lay now y’all got me thinking ahead to my June babies too 😂 imma be a crazy mess stalking all of them waiting for eggs 😂
I think my Easter weekend hatched leghorn is getting close though. I’ve seen her, a Whiting True Green hatched on Easter & my April...
My birds free-range most of the day but they do get kitchen scrap & garden treats, scratch during the winter, yogurt about once a month & mealworms on occasion (mostly during the winter or molting)
For meatbirds they get more yogurt & corn treats when it gets closer to processing time
Definitely good points I didn’t think about. My flock has access to an acre of natural wooded area & we planted things they can eat rather than the normal lawn grasses. They also get into the garden & get kitchen scraps on occasion. Since this is my norm I forget that others may not have the...
I agree with the others that mentioned looking into their commercial feed. Foraging/free-ranging is completely natural & unless they’re foraging in a contaminated area it should not be causing problems.
Have you tried fermenting their feed? It helps to boost their gut health.
I feed mine...
I should have quail hatching Monday too
I love our cochins & light Brahma I think our blue Cochin is our prettiest chicken & she’s still in the teen phase 😂 she was an Easter hatch
So I ordered some bargain roosters from Valley Farms Hatchery… anyone have any ideas what this little guy might be? I’ve never seen a chick with a red face thanks in advance for any help
I gave in & let mine keep 2. Today is day 21. I found 1 chick dis (well have the shell but completely intact membrane) yesterday. I told hubs if this other one doesn’t hatch we need to grab her a few day olds from tsc
