    EMU'S?!?

My husband decided recently that he needed Rhea chicks for his birthday( in May). So now we have two 6 month old ones, the only survivors from a group of 5. They are really fun to watch, and he hopes to breed them, sell eggs and harvest some for meat. He originally wanted Emus but they were too...

    Feed suggestions

No, I don't even give our poultry commercial feed anymore. The chickens and ducks just get corn and milo in the evenings and forage all they want during the day.

    Feed suggestions

I have two 6 month old Rhea chicks. We have been giving them a small amount of cat food in the evenings to get them into their enclosure. But during the day on days when it is not too cool or raining they free range just like our chickens and ducks. We have 2.5 acres so there is plenty of room...

    Heat source for chicks

I was thinking about getting one of these bulbs but wasn't sure if it would fit in the clamp fixture.

    Wound care

One of my young duck hens was roughed up a bit by our puppies. She has some small scrapes and cuts where they pulled her feathers off. What is something I can put on her to help heal and keep from getting infected? I have bathed her and have her in isolation at the moment because I don't want...

Duck sounds like a squeak toy

I have an adult female Cayuga mix that I just witnessed making an unusal sound. Instead of a normal quack she is squeaking! It really truely sounds like a squeaky dog toy. I don't know what in the world could be causing it. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

    What breed are these babies?

Yes, that might be the problem! Try the link again. I made the post public. I don’t have a YouTube account.

    What breed are these babies?

They both sound loud and tweeting and do quack. That typically means female right?

    What breed are these babies?

Hi there! I finally broke down and bought two ducklings from Tractor Supply even though I only need hens and knew it was a toss-up that actually picked girls. I am pleased to say I think they are both female! But I was wondering if anyone might be able to confirm this for me, as well as take a...

    Turkey question

Thanks for all your insight. I appreciate it. I hadn't thought the siblings would be too much of an issue. I guess we should get a different tom. I cannot tell the mother and sister apart. they are both slender and black and pretty much the same size. Maybe I should start shopping around for a...

    Turkey question

I have 5 turkeys, one Tom and four hens. The tom and one of the hens are siblings and have recently become mature. They are from a clutch one of our hens hatched. I have observed the tom trying to perform the mating ritual, but have not seen yet if he has been successful. He's very good at...

    Help! Turkeys living with poultry

I agree. We had to butcher our last Tom because he kept attacking me and our son. He also fought with our rooster and even some of the chicken hens. I hated his guts after a while, even though we had raised him from a poult. He was very tasty in the mole sauce my mother-in-law made with him!

    Affordable incubator suggestions?

I would probably start with a dozen. And I don't think I want to spend much more than $100. I can turn them, but automatic would be a good thing.

Does it matter what kind of drake I add to my flock?

Also, in my experience, Cayugas are VERY horny. He will be really productive in the fertilizing aspect, but the problem is it may be a little TOO productive!

    Affordable incubator suggestions?

I had a small incubator but did not have much success with it. I am looking to get a new one. My roosters seem to be doing an excellent job of "go forth and multiply". Every egg I have used lately has been fertilized, one even had a teeny tiny embryo in it! Or at least I think it was an embryo...
