Hi!
Dry incubating BCM for the umpteenth time.10 days in. The humidity usually stays between 20-40%. It is going up to 45-47%. Springtime in Texas, so humidity is always a factor. We have a dehumidifier by it now and it has helped a little. Wondering if anyone else has some tricks? It has never...
I bought some BCM hatching eggs from a very successful breeder who swears by dry incubation AND hatch. 35% the whole time. Have some incubating that way now. We shall see.
We're in Tx and always dry hatch. Bought some higher dollar stuff from Stalling Farms. He was saying he gets his best results incubating BCM when he incubates at 35% humidity the entire 21 days. Have never tried that. Have always bumped the humidity to 65% at lockdown. Have some test eggs in...
MAY 17-We set eggs under very broody hens.
MAY 20-Same thing with 2 more!
MAY 23-A bobcat killed our favorite cream Legbar roo and 3 of his ladies. We collected eggs from his remaining ladies and set in incubator.
MAY 24-One of the broody's quit and we put her CL eggs in same large incubator...
Thanks for the sex-ed info. Lol.We do know not to stagger. The hens are unrelated to him. And there's a request for some of our CL eggs. So we were already going to incubate some. We just decided to fill all of the bators when we lost him. Thanks again!
A bobcat killed our Cream Legbar rooster and 2 hens 2 nights ago. He was our favorite . We have put 2 dozen eggs from his hens into incubators hoping to hatch his offspring. We know that supposedly eggs can stay fertilized and "viable" for 2 weeks. IYO, would you keep collecting his remaining...
We had 3 hens trying to go broody at the same time in different pens. The first hen we gave eggs to is content. The second one we gave eggs to last night is off of them, but "hunkered down next to the eggs. We don't know how long she's been off and it's in the 80's today.
Can we try to set the...
Hi!
We have a mama (who was brooding) and 2 of her 3plus week old chix she hatched in a small coop inside a pen outside. This coop is closed and has some room for them to run around. We now have 2 more hens who have gone broody!
Would it be ok to give 1 of the other broody hens a nest with...
Hi!
We hatched some chicks from RIR x SLW for Red Sex Links. They hatched, and they all have stripes or bars on them. Some are whitish (male?) and some are reddish (female). For the life of us we cannot get the pics to load. Would the reddish and whitish color still be the gender determining...
We incubated 40 eggs with a large 42 incubator for the first time. Usually use a 12 egg Kebonnixs. Last night about 6 pm (day20) the eggs started hatching. Long story short, we have one dead chick in an open shell in there with I think about 27 live hatched chicks. We were advised in the...
Have a Hova-Bator 2360 now. The lady we got it from has been dry-incubating/hatching with these for years. She always makes sure the temperature is accurate, but doesn't check the humidity. She adds the water at lockdown and doesn't worry about humidity or anything else for the 3 plus days until...
We're on day 21 of a small incubation of BCM using our Kebonnixs incubator. When last candled they were fine, Temp and humidity have been good, etc. We have never had an entire batch of eggs not hatch. Should we wait a couple of days before we candle/float test/ toss?
We have 2 Kebbonixs incubators going. One went on lockdown today. The other is a week behind. Dry hatch method with both. Raised the lockdown bator to 65%. The other is trying to climb to 40%. What should we do? We are in humid Tx.
Can you recommend a small one, please? Have a used Hova-Bator 2370 that we need a Hygrometer for. The seller has been dry-hatching with Hova-Bators for 10 years and she doesn't really watch the humidity. She just locks them down (with a glass cup with sponges in it). We're newer to this so not...
