    Columbian Wyandottes with Cushion Combs

Wiki says Wyandottes have strawberry combs but I have a couple of black and white hens (from a previous owner so idk the hatchery) with cushion combs. At first I thought they might be Sussex hens but that breed is single comb. Then maybe Brahmans? But no feathered legs and those guys are pea...

    Eight Week Old Rooster Pullet

Not if I can help it. I think we should give him a frilly collar to make him feel kinda stupid but nah we won't get rid of him. We have two other roosters who have been pretty nice (so far at least). Wish Lil Monkey could be more like them... I guess there's always a chance that if we hadn't had...

    Leg Mites

They've had leg mites for more than a year now I think. They all sleep together. If some of them haven't gotten leg mites yet, is it not safe to say they won't get leg mites?

    Eight Week Old Rooster Pullet

He's a welsummer rooster for sure (a mean one at that). And yes!

    Leg Mites

If I have a flock of 90 hens and 50 or so are displaying signs of leg mites, do I have to treat all 90 hens for leg mites, or can I get away with only treating the 50 who are displaying signs of leg mites?

    Leg Mites and Blunt Beaks

For a flock of around 90 birds, how severe of a case would this be considered^

    Leg Mites and Blunt Beaks

Second question: Is it likely the hens got leg mites from wild birds? Sparrows often land in the pens to peck at the ground and drink the water on occasion. Do they bring leg and feather mites? If I purge the hens of their leg mites, will sparrows just bring mites back?

    Leg Mites and Blunt Beaks

I have a flock (gold comets, leg horns, black stars, barred rocks, welsummers, EEs) that's a mix of two year old hens and one year old hens. The gold comets are all the two year old hens I believe and the rest are one year olds. I've noticed that while several of the hens show signs of leg mite...

    Bumble Foot in Farm Flocks

I've read quite a few articles from pet chicken owners giving advice on how to treat bumble foot. I know it can eventually spread to the bone or the blood or something and make the chicken go lame, so it is a concern that generally can't just be ignored until it goes away. Most articles talk...

    Blood in Feces?

I just want to know if this is blood and if I should be concerned. I feel like I've seen their poop look slightly orange before on occasion but I'm on extra alert because we just lost a pullet to some sort of respiratory infection and we have another in sick bay so I'm looking at anything as a...

    Eight Week Old Rooster Pullet

Here's Lil Monkey today. I'm honestly no longer convinced he's a partridge plymouth. His neck just seems too light. Could it just be a screw up in color patterning by Hoover? Is it likely he's a different breed? Is he just a welsummer rooster?

    ISA Brown

I am ashamed to say that I only just found out that ISA is an acronym standing for Institut de Sélection Animale and not in fact just a cool name that some people capitalize. Now given, I have only been working with chickens for about a year and a half and I'd only ever heard of ISAs about half...

    Eight Week Old Rooster

Yeah totally. He was climbing all over my legs when I was sitting down the other day. Hope he's still friendly when he's grown up

    Eight Week Old Rooster

Ohhhhhhh so their breeds just aren't super accurate to breed standard? We got a bunch of hens from them, of the 248 we have, 4 are roosters (so far). What's the generally accepted margin of error for sexing. Is 4/248 normal amount of roosters to get when u’ve ordered hens?

    Eight Week Old Rooster

Yeah they gave us 50 cornish meat hens instead of 75 leghorns :/

    Eight Week Old Rooster

Huh woah yeah I bet he's an Amberlink. Looks a lot like one. Are amberlinks friendly? He's by far the most sociable of our roosters

    Eight Week Old Rooster Pullet

He kind of looks like a barnevelder rooster as well tho... They sell both

    Eight Week Old Rooster Pullet

I'm pretty sure at this point you're right. We got him from Hoover's and from the images of the other breeds they sell at the hatchery, he's shaping up to be a pretty convincing partridge plymouth.
