Yea, I thought it could be FFT. But it's just so odd to me that she'll go from gasping for air to running around and eating and drinking. Every other chicken I had with pneumonia or some sort of respiratory illness was totally weak and incapacitated by the time they started in on the gasping...
My mother-in-law had an issue with all her hens pecking at her polish rooster's head, but it was only at night in the coop, so she just had him sleep in a different coop at night til his feathers all grew back, and then it wasn't an issue anymore. Maybe if you did that and let your other hen's...
Took some videos.
She is outside with her adoptive mom (Purd, the mom, was broody, so I took this egg that had been on the counter for two weeks to put under her because I feel bad when they sit on nothing. I checked it and nothing was growing, so I forgot about it. Then, SURPRISE! This little...
I have a 2 and a half week old chick I (happily) accidentally hatched. I have hatched other black silkies before, and she is just not growing like the others, and, a couple days ago, she has started exhibiting upper-respiratory and rear-end issues.
I was up with her until 3am last night because...
I would love it if that were the case because then I wouldn't have to worry about it coming back, but it was under the lining of his throat.
Funny enough, I think I found the abscess stuck on his tail later when I got him out of the carrier... like he may have coughed it up. Pretty gross. Lol...
(Corndog one day ago... perfectly healthy... or so I thought.)
I wanted to post this for posterity, just so everyone knows it's something to look out for.
Today, I noticed my rooster, Corndog, wheezing. He is 3.5 years old and has always been so healthy. I brought him inside to monitor him...
Everything that I read about Elector said that it's supposed to kill adults, larvae, and eggs on contact. That's why you don't have to re-treat your chickies with it like you do with other pesticide options that take longer to kill and needs to stay on the skin.
That being said, I imagine it'd...
Also, just a side note, I do live in Maryland where our air quality has been "Very Unhealthy" on the air quality index for the last couple of days due to the wildfires in Canada. If it's not coccidia, I wonder if that could have something to do with her illness.
One of my 6 week old chicks started pooping just blood. I noticed that her poop was a little bloody last night, but now it's JUST blood.
A little background... I recently took them off medicated feed and on starter/grower, and I've started putting them with my full grown chickens during the...
This was such a great thread to read this morning!! I feel like these happy endings don't happen enough. Watching her go from looking so sad and sick in that first picture to her looking so happy and healthy in the most recent really warmed my heart.
So happy for you and your baby. Happy...
After seeing your pictures, I wouldn't super glue. It looks kind of okay to me. I'd just keep her separated til its nice and clean and scabbing, and I'd monitor her once you put her back with the flock to make sure she's not getting picked on. But that doesn't look bad, to me.
I wouldn't be able to cut it off either!
If I were in your shoes, I would first separate her from the flock. I would clean it really well with Vetericyn (or another antimicrobial). I would do this a number of times.
Once it looks pretty cleaned up, you could try to super glue it back together...
I agree with the above. Also, Rooster Booster Pick-No-More lotion could be helpful to keep them from continuing to pick, and it soothes. It has a very strong tea tree scent fyi.
